Congratulations to our former Cadet Squadron Commander, Warrant Officer 1st Class Hamon Sidhu, for aging out and completing the Air Cadet Program!

WO1 Sidhu joined 848 Royal Roads in 2019 with an interest in the marksmanship and biathlon programs. WO1 Sidhu was known throughout the Vancouver Island area for supporting Area Directed Activities and many other cadet events. WO1 Sidhu was promoted to his current rank at the end of the 2024 training year, but has also held numerous other positions supporting the squadron such as Supply Warrant Officer, Flight Commander, and as a member of Flag Party. WO1 Sidhu has also played a crucial role in the training and coaching of the squadron’s marksmanship and biathlon teams.

WO1 Sidhu has attended Cadet Training Centres four times, three as a Staff Cadet. In 2022, WO1 Sidhu attended the Air Rifle Marksmanship Instructor course at Vernon Cadet Training Centre. The next summer in 2023, he returned to Vernon CTC to staff the same course. In 2024, WO1 Sidhu had the opportunity to staff the ARMI course at Whitehorse CTC in the Yukon. Lastly, he returned to Whitehorse CTC as the Company Sergeant Major for the Drill and Ceremonial Instructor course.

During the 2025 Annual Ceremonial Review, WO1 Sidhu was awarded the King Charles III’s Coronation Medal. In addition to the coronation medal, WO1 Sidhu has also been awarded the Lord Strathcona Medal and the Air Cadet Service Medal with two bars, representing six years of service as an Air Cadet.

We wish Sidhu the best of luck with his future career in the Canadian Armed Forces!

Congratulations to FSgt Lilienne Ruddick, WO2 Riley Grove, and WO2 Parker Makcrow for aging out and completing the Air Cadet Program!

FSgt Ruddick joined 848 Royal Roads in 2022 and was accelerated into Proficiency Level Three. Since then, she has been a dedicated member of the squadron, taking on numerous leadership roles. On parade, she served as Flight Second-in-Command and was ultimately appointed Flight Commander for the 2025 Annual Ceremonial Review. In the summer of 2024, FSgt Ruddick attended the Advanced Aviation Course at HMCS Quadra CTC, where she developed skills in instructional techniques, aviation communication, and meteorology.

WO2 Grove began his cadet career with 848 Royal Roads in 2021 and quickly became a key leader within the squadron. He has held several senior positions, including Deputy Commander, Level Head Instructor and Adjutant. WO2 Grove has also contributed significantly to the marksmanship program by instructing and coaching junior cadets. Over three summers, he attended Cadet Training Centres across Canada: Argonaut CTC in Gagetown, NB (2023) as a Course Cadet for the Air Rifle Marksmanship Instructor Course; Whitehorse CTC (2024) as a Platoon Warrant Officer; and Rocky Mountain CTC (2025) in Professional Development. His achievements include the Cadet Long Service Medal and the Top Shot Award for the 2024-2025 training year.

WO2 Makcrow has been an integral member of 848 Royal Roads, serving as a senior cadet for nearly three years. His leadership roles included Level 4 Head Instructor, where he trained the next generation of senior cadets, Drum Major for the 2024-2025 training year leading the squadron’s band on parade, and Squadron Supply Warrant Officer. He attended the Military Band Musician Course at HMCS Quadra CTC, gaining valuable experience in teaching and leading a band. With over four years in the program, WO2 Makcrow was awarded the Cadet Long Service Medal. Happy birthday!

Thank you to all three of these outstanding cadets for their dedication, leadership, and lasting contributions to 848 Royal Roads.
