What do you enjoy most about working for Victoria Fire and the Fire Service?
As a fourth-generation Victorian, one of the things I enjoy most about working for Victoria Fire is the incredible sense of pride that comes with serving a community rooted in history and tradition. The camaraderie within the department is second to none, and it’s that shared commitment and teamwork that shows up every day—on calls, during inspections, and throughout the community.
I’ve always believed this job is member-driven. For newer firefighters coming into the service, my advice is simple: show up, be present, and grow with your teammates. The relationships you build here will shape your career and your life.
Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to stay actively involved within the department and the membership. Early in my career, I served as an executive member with both the Charitable and Benevolent Associations, spending many years supporting the hockey program on and off the ice. More recently, I had the honour of serving two terms as President of IAFF Local 730—a role I consider the proudest chapter of my fire service career.
Now entering the “twilight years” of my career, I’ve found a new appreciation for learning from the younger members coming into the department. Their energy, ideas, and perspectives continue to make the job rewarding.
Interests: Outside of the fire hall, I stay busy as an active softball coach, enjoy golfing, appreciate a good neighbourhood pub, and spend as much time as possible with my family. And yes… despite decades of emotional damage, I remain a loyal Canucks fan.
