What do you enjoy most about working for Victoria Fire and the Fire Service: What I enjoy most about working for Victoria Fire is that every day is different. You never really know what the next call or shift will bring, and there’s something incredibly rewarding about being able to help people and give back to the community we serve. I also really enjoy the people. The fire service has a unique sense of camaraderie, and the members you work alongside quickly become like a second family.

Interests: Outside of the fire service, a lot of my free time is spent chasing around my two-year-old son and watching my seven-month-old daughter grow so quickly. Being able to spend time with my family and watch my kids grow is definitely one of the best parts of life outside the fire hall.

Other Roles: I joined the Victoria Firefighters Charitable Foundation as a Director in 2023 and have since had the opportunity to serve as Secretary and now President. It’s been an honour to work alongside and learn from some incredible leaders while representing our members and continuing our commitment to giving back to the community. One of the things I’m most proud of is bringing forward our VFD Back to School Program, which provides school supplies to students in need by working directly with local schools to identify their needs. Seeing firsthand the difference this program makes for children and their families has been incredibly rewarding. I’m proud to be a firefighter and grateful for the opportunity to serve our community in another way through the Foundation.

Great work by Engine 3 last night while B Platoon was on duty.

The crew responded quickly and worked efficiently to get the fire under control.

Even with the little rain we have had, conditions remain quite dry. Fires can spread quickly and become challenging to contain. A quick response and coordinated attack can make all the difference.

What do you enjoy most about working for Victoria Fire and the Fire Service: Helping people in our community is incredibly rewarding. Every day brings an opportunity to make a positive difference in someone’s life while working alongside some of the most dedicated, skilled, and compassionate people I’ve ever met. It is a true privilege to serve the City of Victoria as a firefighter.

My time with the Victoria Firefighters Charitable Foundation has been one of the most meaningful parts of my career. I was fortunate to volunteer at countless community events before eventually serving as President of the Foundation. Supporting local charities, connecting with our community, and helping make a positive impact beyond emergency response has been a tremendous privilege and something I will always look back on with great pride.

For the third consecutive year, we’re proud to support the Courtnall Society for Mental Health through the Ken Gill & Forrest Owens Memorial Hockey Tournament.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of everyone who participated, we were honoured to present a $3,500 donation this year to help support mental health initiatives in our community.

This tournament is about more than hockey. It’s an opportunity for firefighters from across Greater Victoria to come together, honour the memories of Ken Gill and Forrest Owens, promote the importance of first responder mental health, and give back to local organizations making a real difference.

Thank you to everyone who played, volunteered, donated, and helped make another successful tournament possible. Together, we’re making a positive impact both on and off the ice.

The Inner Harbour was buzzing this morning as the Red Bull Log Drivers thrilled the crowds! 🪵🔥

Local 730’s Historical Society was proud to showcase two of our beautifully restored antique fire trucks, giving visitors a chance to step back in time, say hi and grab a photo.

Throwback Thursday to Island Ignite Mentorship Society this past weekend

It was inspiring to watch young women from across Vancouver Island challenge themselves, learn new skills, and experience life in the fire service alongside outstanding mentors.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make this program possible.
