John Howard Society of Victoria As a community of people, we are for the individual, believing that every aspect of care and support has a generational impact.

We aim to build safer, inclusive communities by supporting people through housing, employment, justice system navigation, and mentorship.

We provide services for those facing barriers to sustainable employment and housing, along with community-based programs focused on youth and women at risk. Our community garden, our justice programs and partnerships with First Nations Communities are among the many responses our organization is passionate about. Our reach is not limited to any specific gender, race or culture but is open to all people. We’d like to extend our hearts and thankfulness to the lək̓ʷəŋən (Lekwungen) People of the Songhees and Esquimalt First Nations and acknowledge their traditional territory, the Xwsepsum Territory, on which we work and serve the community.

Today we celebrate International Children's Day 💙

Every child deserves the opportunity to grow up feeling safe, supported, confident, and cared for.

At JHS, we are proud to support children and youth through the KidStart program. A free, one-on-one mentorship program for children and youth who are navigating difficult life circumstances. KidStart focuses on building self-esteem while improving academic, social, and emotional well-being. Through consistent mentorship and positive relationships, the program helps young people build resilience and develop healthy coping skills, while reducing risks related to mental health struggles, substance use, and involvement in harmful behaviors.

This work is rooted in the belief that every young person deserves encouragement, stability, and someone in their corner.

✨ Celebrate their curiosity
✨ Encourage their growth
✨ Support their mental wellness
✨ Empower their future

To all children and families: your voices matter, your potential is real, and your community stands with you 💙

📢 World Marketing Day 2026 📢

Today, on World Marketing Day, we celebrate the power of storytelling, connection, and purpose-driven communication.

Marketing isn't just about promoting products or services—it's about building bridges, raising awareness, and creating meaningful connections that drive positive change in our communities.

At the John Howard Society of Victoria, our marketing is rooted in our mission: to create safe, healthy, and inclusive communities for all. Every message we share, every story we tell, and every connection we make is grounded in our core values of Dignity, Advocacy, Empowerment, Collaboration, Accountability, and Resiliency.

How We Use Marketing to Make a Difference:
🎯 Raising Awareness: We use our platforms to shine a light on issues that matter—mental health, accessibility, housing instability, employment barriers, and justice system involvement. Our goal is to educate, inform, and inspire action.
🤝 Building Community: Social media allows us to build community, start conversations, and share stories of resilience, hope, and transformation. We meet people where they are—online and in person—creating spaces for dialogue and connection.
💙 Advocacy & Social Justice: Our communications advocate for those facing barriers, challenge stigma, and promote inclusion. We believe marketing can be a powerful tool for social change when it's ethical, inclusive, and community-centered.
📖 Impactful Storytelling: We share the real stories of programs, services, and the individuals we support (always with consent and respect for privacy). Through visual content, short videos, and authentic narratives, we demonstrate the tangible impact of community support.
🌍 Inclusive & Respectful Communication: Our content is created with care—respectful of all cultural groups, free from stigmatizing language, and designed to honor the dignity of every person we serve. We don't use phrases that classify or stigmatize—instead, we use person-centered language that empowers.
🔗 Connecting People to Resources: Marketing helps us connect individuals with the support they need—whether it's employment programs, housing assistance, mental health navigation, or community services. Every post has the potential to change a life.
Marketing with Purpose
For us, marketing is more than visibility—it's about values-driven communication that aligns with who we are and what we stand for.

This World Marketing Day, we celebrate the power of ethical, community-centered marketing to drive awareness, connection, and positive social change.

Because when marketing is done with purpose, dignity, and heart—everyone benefits.

💚 Mental Health Awareness 💚

Mental health matters every day, for everyone. This day is a reminder to check in with ourselves and with those around us, to lead with compassion, and to help break the stigma surrounding mental health.

It’s okay to ask for help. It’s okay to take a pause. And it’s important to know that no one has to face their struggles alone.

At JHS, we recognize the importance of accessible support, positive connections, and early intervention for children, youth, and families. Through programs like KidStart and other community-based supports, we help provide mentorship, encouragement, and safe spaces where individuals can build confidence, resilience, and healthy coping skills while feeling supported through life’s challenges.

Let’s continue creating supportive spaces where conversations about mental health are welcomed, respected, and encouraged. Together, we can build stronger, healthier communities.

💜 May is Teen Self-Esteem Month 💜

A time to remind teens everywhere that confidence isn’t about being perfect — it’s about learning to value who you are.

At JHS, we are proud to support children and youth through programs like KidStart, a free, one-on-one mentorship program that supports young people navigating difficult life circumstances. Through consistent mentorship, positive role models, and meaningful connections, youth are encouraged to build self-esteem, strengthen social and emotional well-being, and develop healthy coping skills. Programs like KidStart help create safe spaces where young people feel heard, supported, and empowered to reach their full potential.

In a world full of pressure and comparison, every young person deserves encouragement, support, and the space to grow into themselves without fear of judgment.

This month, let’s help build self-esteem by:
✨ Encouraging positive self-talk
✨ Celebrating individuality
✨ Supporting mental wellness
✨ Lifting each other up online and offline

To every teen: your voice matters, your feelings are valid, and you are enough exactly as you are.
