Allan Brooks Nature Centre Society The Allan Brooks Nature Centre fosters a connection between schools, the public, and nature through its programming.

It offers residents and visitors of the Okanagan region opportunities for nature-based learning, and engaging events and experiences. Perched atop the grasslands just south of Vernon the Allan Brooks Nature Centre (ABNC) is your place to satisfy your natural curiosity and reconnect with the joys of nature. The Nature Centre provides visitors a first-hand opportunity to see and learn about the Okan

aganโ€™s unique and diverse natural heritage through views, information, programs, and displays of the regionโ€™s natural areas. The Centre occupies the old Vernon Upper Air Weather Station overlooking the city of Vernon and was first opened on July 1, 2000. It is ideally situated on a grassland knoll at the confluence of the Okanagan and Coldstream valleys. Three lakes and five ecosystems can be seen from this site and spectacular, panoramic views of the Okanagan and its diverse ecosystems. The Allan Brooks Nature Centre is committed to promoting the enjoyment of nature and increasing awareness of habitat conservation through environmental education and nature-related activities in the Okanagan region.

This fall, bring your class for a hands-on Kokanee salmon experience featuring:

๐ŸŸ Creek-side salmon observation
๐Ÿ’ง Interactive watershed experience
๐Ÿ”ฌ Salmon life-cycle lesson
๐ŸŽฒ A fun salmon game

๐Ÿ‚ Programs are expected to run from mid-September to mid-October 2026.

The Allan Brooks Nature Centre is looking for a warm, organized and resourceful Events & Volunteer Assistant to help us create memorable community events and build a strong, engaged volunteer team.

Weโ€™re looking for a relationship builderโ€”someone who is comfortable reaching out, inviting people to get involved and nurturing those connections over time. The right person will be friendly, dependable, tech-comfortable and serious about getting the details done while still knowing how to have fun.

This could be a great fit for someone with experience in events, volunteer coordination, administration, hospitality, customer service or community programmingโ€”or someone newer to the field with strong transferable skills and plenty of initiative.

This could be a great fit for someone with experience in education, childcare, recreation, camps, community programming, nature interpretationโ€”or simply a natural ability to connect with children and youth and make learning fun!
