RESIDENTS OF THE VILLAGE OF VANSCOY

Regarding Back Lane Pickup: the back lane pick-up service is only for the collection of yard waste, grass clippings and branches from the pruning of trees. The Village will no longer be collecting large amounts of branches from tree removals; the resident will be responsible for the disposal. Small bins or totes may be used for grass clippings and placed in the alley instead of garbage bags; however, the bin or tote can weigh in excess of 35 pounds. This weight restriction is also for garbage bags. Anything in excess of 35 pounds will not be picked up.

Regarding nuisance yards: Village Bylaw 8-05 states that “No owner or occupant shall cause or permit the land to be overgrown with grass or weeds” and “no person shall cause or permit any land or buildings to become untidy and unsightly”. The Village, through bylaw, may take whatever actions or measures necessary to remedy a contravention of the bylaw. Any expense incurred by the Village may be recovered through collection of fines levied and/or adding the amounts to the tax of the property.

Bylaw 1-14 regarding the Regulation of Sump Pits and Surface Drainage states: Discharge shall not be directed onto a pervious ground surface within 2 meters of any building; and Discharge shall be directed to the front yard of any property that has curbing on the front street; Weeping tile and sump connections into the sanitary system are strictly prohibited. The sump pit and surface drainage system shall be installed without causing excessive ponding on public or private property. Anyone in violation of this bylaw shall be guilty of an offense and subject to fines.

With the possibility of a Postal Strike, residents who do not already receive Utility Billings by email can receive billings electronically. Send your email address to:
[email protected]
The next actual billing will be done at the end of September. Send your readings to the office: [email protected]
