Accessibility is not one-size-fits-all.

For people who are DeafBlind, accessibility may include tactile communication, adapted ASL, intervenor support, environmental information, trusted relationships, and time to communicate in the way that works best for them.

At Wavefront Centre, our DeafBlind Services are built around each person’s individual communication preferences and needs.

During National AccessAbility Week and National DeafBlind Awareness Month, we are raising funds to help support services that create more opportunities for independence, confidence, and connection.

This year’s theme, “Building a Strong, Accessible Canada,” reminds us that accessibility is something we all have a role in advancing.

: Accessible pathways to employment

As part of Wavefront Centre’s 70th anniversary, we’re sharing moments that shaped communication accessibility.

This moment reflects early employment support at Western Institute for the Deaf, where sign language was central to career exploration, guidance, and connection to opportunity. Tools like occupational boards helped map out possibilities, but it was accessible communication that made those opportunities real.

This work helped lay the foundation for today’s inclusive employment practices.

Do you have stories about accessible career guidance and opportunities? We’d love to hear from you. Please like, comment, and share.
