On August 28, Consul General Takahashi visited Ucluelet on the west coast of Vancouver Island, where he learned about the history of the Japanese Canadian community that existed there before the war. He also attended the unveiling of a pavilion built to preserve and share the memory of that community, and delivered remarks at the ceremony.
The gazebo-style pavilion was completed by a Canadian carpenter who studied traditional Japanese temple and shrine carpentry techniques.

🌕🍂 September has arrived, which means it’s almost time to celebrate (お月見), Japan’s traditional autumn moon-viewing festival!

Did you know that, according to Japanese folklore, rabbits can be seen living on the moon? 🐇🌙

To mark the occasion, families decorate with susuki (🌾), or Japanese pampas grass, and offer round Tsukimi Dango (月見団子) 🍡, whose shape represents the full moon. These traditional treats are offered with wishes for good health and gratitude for the autumn harvest. ✨🌕
