June is Pride Month! This month, we celebrate and honour 2SLGBTQIA+ people. The intersections of disability and 2SLGBTQIA+ identities are important to highlight when we discuss Pride, and the history behind it.

In saying that, we still have a long way to go in achieving equity for all members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. As an organization that serves this population and members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, it is our responsibility to create spaces where our clients and families can feel welcome, appreciated, understood and accepted, and doing so involves ongoing confrontation and dismantling of cis and heteronormative perspectives of gender and sexuality.

Throughout the month of May, our Supported Child Development team has been in the community attending the Vancouver School Board's On Our Way to Kindergarten Fairs! Alongside community partners, our SCD team has been connecting with families to give them the information they need on what support from our qualified and experienced consultants within the program can provide. Pictured are two Vancouver SCD Consultants at the May 5th fair, and our consultants will be attending the other fairs listed here: https://www.vsb.bc.ca/on-our-way-to-kindergarten

Today in honour of Childcare Month, we want to spotlight one of our Supported Child Development (SCD) program's partners, Eaglets Child Care! Read on to learn more about our childcare partners.

Eaglets Child Care is deeply committed to community and connection as the essence of early learning and development. Since 1993, they have passionately served the east side of Vancouver, providing high-quality, inclusive early childhood care and education for children aged 3 to 13. Their program nurtures creativity, social skills, and emotional growth through play-based learning and structured activities, fostering a supportive environment that uplifts both children and their families.

Eaglets has cultivated meaningful partnerships with organizations like BC Centre for Ability, Vancouver Coastal Health, Vancouver Aboriginal Support Child Development program, Pedagogsita, and Indigenous Elders. They show profound care through an inclusion program that supports neurodivergent children and their families. The team actively invests in professional development by participating in community workshops, organizing social team-building activities, and holding staff meetings to plan and adapt practices, ensuring inclusivity is thoughtfully integrated. They use community grants to offer opportunities for all children to enjoy enriching activities like soccer, music, movement, and yoga. For years, the team has worked collaboratively, embracing a team teaching approach to build strong connections with every child and sharing insights to collectively support goals and strategies that prioritize family-centred and inclusive practices.
