This event is part of the Vancouver Parks Board Sustenance Festival, a celebration of Food, Land and Culture.

We had an amazing planting party on September 21, 2025, the culmination of years in the making! We are so excited to welcome in so many new plant friends!

Thank you to everyone who came out and volunteered to make it happen, and especially to for sending 20+ volunteers and supplying a delicious lunch!

Big thank you to our partners at Community Garden Roots/ Public Health Association of BC for continuing to steward this space and for all of your efforts! We also want to thank the folks from the Land and Food Systems/ Decolonization Arts and Culture team at Vancouver Parks Board, Landscape Designer Robyn Adams .ca , Lu’Ma Medical Centre Society, the Centre for Indigenous Land-Based Education, Research and Wellness at xwc̓ic̓əsəm, and Trout Lake Community Centre and Association for all of your support and efforts to make this expansion possible.

We broke ground this week with Community Garden Roots and the Decolonization Arts and Culture Team at Vancouver Parks leading the way! Big thank you to all of our partners, consultants and funders for all of your support and leadership! We are looking forward to this new beginning!

We need help with moving soil and mulch, digging holes, planting new plant and tree friends, prepping the food and generally spreading positivity!

We’ll have plenty of snacks and a tent set up in case of heat or rain. Tools provided but please bring some extras if you have.

Natural Dyeing with Rita Point Kompst!

This month in the garden, we welcome Rita Point Kompst, xʷmәθkʷәy̓әm (Musqueam) Elder, cedar weaver and natural wool dye artist. Rita will talk about her artistic process and approach to natural dyeing and weaving, and will demonstrate how to dye with twinberries from the garden.

Garden tending and harvesting at 10am, workshop begins at 11am. All supplies included. Tea and snacks!

We had a beautiful circle today at the Medicine Wheel Garden at Trout Lake with Daughters of the Drum, led by Elder Aline Laflamme. We are so grateful for all who participated. A perfect way to honour Mother Earth for Earth Day and bless this beautiful land for our upcoming garden expansion in the Fall of 2025! Thank you to and for putting on such a welcoming and uplifting event!!

It’s good to be back in the garden!

Learn about Indigenous foods and medicines growing in Trout Lake’s Medicine Wheel Garden! Join us for some light gardening, medicine making with in-season plants from the garden, tea and snacks! We’ll have a tent set up in case of heat or rain.

The garden will be open for the Trout Lake Community Centre Earth Day Celebration! We’ll be hosting a drum circle outside at the garden with Daughters of the Drum at 12pm, with lots of other activities happening around the community centre. Check out for a whole schedule of events. See you there!

Learn about Indigenous foods and medicines growing in Trout Lake’s Medicine Wheel Garden! Join us monthly for hands-on experience tending the garden, harvesting, and medicine making. This month, we are honoured to welcome Elder Seis’lom of Lil’wat Nation, resident Elder at Lu’Ma Medical Centre Society. Elder Seis’lom will share some songs and give a talk, in preparation for Truth and Reconciliation Day. Garden tending and seed saving at 2pm, followed by tea and snacks. The talk begins at 3pm.
