ECEBC was grateful to spend time in Chetwynd and MacKenzie recently, where we had the pleasure of connecting with the Kici-Awasimsak Child & Family Development Centre in Chetwynd and the YMCA Child Care in both Chetwynd and MacKenzie. Our Northern Ambassadors also connected with early years professionals at the beautiful Chetwynd library. It was powerful to hear about the Early Years work taking place and a privilege to be part of authentic conversation about ways to uplift and support northern educators, including through ECEBC programs such as the Ambassador Pilot Project. It was an honour to spend time together with you on Treaty 8 territory, including the traditional and ancestral home of the Saulteau First Nations, West Moberly First Nations, Dunne-za (Beaver), Cree, Sikanni, and Slavey people, and the Tsay Keh Dene Nation, McLeod Lake Indian Band, and Kaska Dena peoples.

This summer, ECEBC had the pleasure of connecting with educators and child care centres in Dawson Creek, including Shine Bright Northern Tykes Daycare, Milezero Academy, and BCF Faithworks Academy & Early Childhood Learning Centre. It was inspiring to hear about the meaningful Early Years work taking place, both in centres and throughout the community, and was a wonderful opportunity to share about the province-wide work of ECEBC, including the Ambassador Pilot Project and the vital role of ECEBC Membership. ECEBC’s Northern Ambassadors also co-hosted a drop-in event along with the South Peace CCRR, where we spent a wonderful evening with early years professionals from across Dawson Creek. It was an honour to spend time together with you on Treaty 8 territory, which is the traditional and ancestral home of the Cree, Dane-Zaa, Saulteau, Sikanni and Slavey First Nations.

Great news from our affiliate partner in PEI.

We are thrilled to share that Pedagogical Support positions will be fully funded through March 31, 2027.

The ELCC community across the country raised its voice about the importance of investing in strong, sustainable child care systems. The federal government listened and has responded with additional funding to support provincial and territorial systems.

Here on PEI, this funding is being used to fully fund Pedagogical Support, providing important stability for children, families, educators, and centres. Thank you to Minister Robin Croucher and our provincial teams for their continued advocacy with the federal government and PEI’s federal representatives.

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who advocated, shared their stories, signed the petition, supported the campaign, and helped make the importance of Pedagogical Support visible.

What happens next?
The March 31, 2027 date provides the Province with a target to continue work with all partners to secure a sustainable future for not only the Pedagogical Support position, but the entire PEI ELCC system.

Beginning April 1, 2027, a new Pedagogical Support policy will be introduced to provide clear guidelines and direction for this essential position.

The ECDA is proud to have been part of this work, and we look forward to continuing to work collaboratively with Minister Croucher and his team.
