interesting twist in the plot! imagine every property owner who gets flooded out sues the province for logging! the next decade is going to be super interesting if everyone spends their time pointing fingers... I get it, if my home flooded I would be looking for answers too- I just think we need more of a collaboration, solution's focused approach here and less finger-pointing/blame game type stuff!

'anti-flood fortifications'?!!

For years, experts had been warning about weaknesses in the network of more than 1,100 kilometres of anti-flood fortifications – but fear of cost and lack of maintenance left many problems unsolved before it was too late

“If we can learn from this and continue to make progress in landscape-scale forest resilience, and addressing climate change through more prescribed fire, through fuel reduction, and through all the things we can each do to address climate change, then the losses won’t be in vain,” Brigham says.'

At all times, but especially this time of year- let there be HOPE!

Severe fires killed sequoias in 2020 and 2021.

'Over the last two centuries, 85 percent of the San Francisco Bay’s natural wetlands have been displaced by buildings, port infrastructure and agricultural development, creating what Lamb calls “a very human-shaped edge” between the bay and its surrounding urban landscapes.'

As an environmental officer in Samoa, Violet Wulf-Saena worked with the Lano and Saoluafata Indigenous peoples to restore coastline mangrove ecosystems that could slow incoming waves and protect communities from storm and flood damage.  Two decades later, in California’s San Francisco Bay Area, s...

I have worked for over 7 years in a variety of supporting roles on the lower mainland flood strategy - which has fostered a regional approach to flood risk management. It's slow going but it's totally necessary as an interconnected, urban region facing mtlpl flood threats that are only getting greater in frequency and severity...
