Congratulations to Captain Latashya Truong on her well-deserved promotion to the rank of Captain!

Captain Truong joined 888 Avenger Squadron in 2020 and has held a variety of leadership roles within the squadron. She was sworn into the Cadet Instructors Cadre in 2012 at 819 Skyhawk Squadron before joining 888. Over the years, Captain Truong has served in several key appointments, including as a Proficiency Level Officer, the Administration Officer, and now the Training Officer. The rank of Captain is the highest rank an officer can achieve at the LHQ level, reflecting her experience, dedication, and leadership.

Congratulations to WO1 Ethan Yung for completing and aging out of the cadet program! WO1 Yung joined the squadron in 2019, and has assisted in leading 888 post-pandemic.

Throughout his time, he has held various parade positions including being the Squadron Commander, Squadron Deputy Commander and as a Flight Commander. Beyond this, he represented the squadron as part of the Effective Speaking Team and assisted in editing pictures for our social media accounts.

Outside of parade appointments, WO1 Yung has been the NCOIC for multiple events, the Proficiency Level 1 Head and President of the Mess Committee.

We would like to thank WO1 Yung for his service and wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.

On November 11th, 2025, our squadron participated in the annual South Vancouver Remembrance Day Parade, marching from John Oliver Secondary School to the Memorial South Park Cenotaph. Led by Warrant Officer Second Class Adam Lee, our cadets joined , , and other community organizations to honour those who served and sacrificed.

At the 11th hour, we joined Canadians across the country in a moment of silence to reflect, remember, and pay our respects.

Thank you to all cadets, staff, families, and community members who came out to support.

Congratulations to WO1 Bosco Wong for successfully completing and aging out of the cadet program. WO1 Wong has dedicated himself to the program for many years and has established himself as an outstanding cadet through his leadership.

His impressive career saw him involved in many aspects the program has to offer. Over the years, he has been apart of the Band, Range Team, Drill Team, Ground School, and several sports teams. Through these teams and other activities, he received his Music Proficiency, Marksmanship, and Standard First Aid Qualifications. He was also accepted into the Glider Pilot Training Course in 2023. Outside of the squadron, he participated in and ran many ADA’s, ranging from NCO workshops to Field Training Exercises to special events like the Invictus Games Opening Ceremony.

WO1 Wong took advantage of summer training, attending every year he was able to. In 2019, he attended General Training at Albert Head CTC and was recognized as the Top Cadet in his flight. In 2021, he attended the Military Band Musician - Intermediate Course on Virtual CTC. In 2022, he attended the Fitness and Sports Instructor Course at Vernon CTC. He then returned to Vernon CTC as a staff cadet as part of the Fitness and Sports Department, where he was awarded the Blayne Materi Memorial Citizenship Award and the Order of St. George Medal in 2023 and 2024, respectively. To top it all off, he went to HMCS Quadra in 2025 as a staff cadet and was appointed as the Chief of Seamanship, SBO, & Music. Not only was he awarded the Canada Company Bursary, but he received his SCOP 1, 2, 3, and 5 Module Qualifications.

WO1 Wong consistently displayed high standards of dress, drill, and deportment, serving as a role-model for many cadets. During his time on the Cadet Command Team, he led the squadron with confidence, charm, and care, playing a significant role in keeping the squadron running after COVID-19.

We would like to thank WO1 Wong for his tremendous contributions and efforts to the squadron and the cadet program. We wish you the best of luck and we look forward to seeing your continued contributions to the program in the future!

Last week, we held our second Commanding Officer’s Parade of the training year. With guests and parents in attendance, cadets proudly demonstrated their drill, dress, and deportment on parade. The evening also featured well-deserved promotions to Leading Air Cadet, Corporal, and Flight Corporal! Congratulations to those who were promoted.

Additionally, we witnessed a Change of Appointment from WO1 Bosco Wong to WO1 Ethan Yung. to both for their outstanding leadership and continued commitment to 888!

On Tuesday, September 23, 888 Avenger Squadron held a Change of Command Parade. At this parade, we bid farewell to our outgoing Commanding Officer (CO) Captain Cheung and welcomed our new CO, Captain Poissant.

We would like to thank Captain Cheung for his service over the past year, who worked to revive many of our squadron’s extracurricular activities. We wish him the best as he takes on the role as the CO of another squadron.

We are extremely excited to have Captain Poissant as our new CO. Captain Poissant brings in a wealth of knowledge and leadership to the squadron!

On Saturday, September 6, our Senior NCO’s came together for a workshop!

Delivered by the Officers and Cadet Command team, our seniors reviewed lesson planning techniques, components of leadership, squadron standard operating procedures, and drill.

As we gear up toward the start of a new training year, our seniors are now prepared to instruct, mentor, and lead the squadron to success.

🌟 CTC SPOTLIGHT 🌟

Over in the Okanagan, 888 sent cadets to attend summer training at Vernon CTC!

Sgt Law attended the Air Rifle Marksmanship Instructor Course, where she built upon the skills she learned on the Introduction to Marksmanship Course. Not only did they did lots of shooting, but they had the opportunity to engage with the British Columbia Dragoons.

FCpl Chung took on the Fitness and Sports Instructor Course. Here, he learned to teach skill lessons, conduct circuit training, and organize sporting events.

FCpl Chan attended the Introduction to Drill & Ceremonial Course. The course focusses on developing a strong foundation on drill and ceremonial procedures. FCpl Chan demonstrated high standards and was selected to be a part of the Precision Drill Team.

Finally, Cpl Zhang went on the Introduction to Survival Course. This course allows cadets to develop essential survival skills, with activities ranging from field training to navigation training.

🌟 CTC SPOTLIGHT 🌟

During the summer, some of our cadets took an adventure to HMCS Quadra on Vancouver Island for summer training.

WO1 Wong spent 8 weeks as a Staff Cadet. Appointed as the Chief of Seamanship, SBO & Music, he took advantage of the opportunity to learn about the sea trade and earn some SCOP levels.

Sgt Sawatzky took on the Advanced Aviation course. Across 4 weeks, he built on his aviation knowledge with more advanced instruction in navigation, meteorology, and radio communications.

Cpl Sajjan attend the Aviation Technology & Aerospace Course. This two-week course gave him the chance to gain a sense of aviation principles and airport operations.

Finally, LAC Guo attended the Introduction to Military Band Course. She learned about ceremonial procedures, band drill, and enhanced her music skills.

Congratulations to WO2 Arianna Tham for successfully completing and aging out of the cadet program! WO2 Tham joined the program in 2018 at a different squadron and transferred to 888 in 2021.

WO2 Tham has been instrumental in rebuilding our squadron after the pandemic. Her dedication to her cadets and outgoing attitude make her an approachable leader. This leadership style has led her to adopt parade positions such as Squadron Adjutant, Flight Commander, and Flight Sergeant. She has also worked under the training, administration, and standards departments.

Throughout her time with us, she has taken the initiative to be the NCOIC for many events. She has led numerous FTX’s, holiday parties, and field trips!

We would like to thank WO2 Tham for her service and we wish you the best in your future endeavours.

On June 1st, 888 held our 15th Annual Ceremonial Review! Led by the Squadron Commander, WO1 Bosco Wong, this parade served as a celebration in recognition of the cadets’ hard work and growth throughout the training year.

Cadets had the opportunity to showcase their learning during the parade through our dynamic and static displays. The 655 x 888 Drill Team performed their precision drill routine, followed by speeches from our Effective Speaking Team.

We would like to congratulate all of our cadets for successfully completing the training year. To our special guests and our Reviewing Officer, Major Greg Dowler, thank you for attending and participating in the parade. Finally, thank you to ANAF 26, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 44, 655 Richmond, and our Squadron Sponsoring Committee for all of their support throughout the training year.

Congratulations to WO2 Ariel Chen for successfully completing and aging out of the cadet program! WO2 Chen joined the program in 2018 and has since established herself as a strong cadet and leader.

Throughout her years in the squadron, she has held numerous leadership roles, such as Flight Sergeant, Supernumerary, Squadron Warrant Officer, and Level 1 Head Instructor. In these roles, she has consistently demonstrated high standards and instructional skills.

Outside of the squadron, she took advantage of many opportunities. She was an instructor for many workshops such as the 759 Falcon NCOTC in 2024 and 2025. In 2019, she attended General Training at Alberthead CTC. In 2022, she attended Fitness and Sports Instructor Course at Vernon CTC. In 2023 and 2024, she returned to Vernon CTC as a staff cadet, where she assisted in delivering the Fitness and Sports Instructor Course. In February, she was selected to be the placard bearer for Team Canada at the 2025 Invictus Games Opening Ceremony. She was also selected as a medallion tray holder during the Closing Ceremony.

As a result of her strong leadership skills displayed within and out of the squadron, she has been recognized as the Top Instructor in the squadron. WO2 Chen has also been awarded the Lord Strathcona Medal.

As her cadet journey comes to a close, we would like to thank her for all her years of hard work and dedication to the program. We wish you all the best!
