Emergency Preparedness Week May 6 - 12, 2012
This week is a great time for families to talk about what to do, what supplies are needed at home and in the car and to set aside some practice time for drills so that everyone can feel comfortable in knowing what to do in the event of an emergency. A great website to check out is www.getprepared.gc.ca

You should be prepared to take care of yourself and your family for a minimum of 72 hours. Here's how.

Children, from babies to teens, need families.
Currently, there are 437 teens registered to be adopted and who wait for their forever families. Last year, 23 kids over the age of 12 were adopted, a huge increase from 2001-2002 year, when there were less than 10 teen adoptions. These numbers demonstrate that more teens are being adopted, and more teens are choosing adoption as their plan. It also shows that many teens are still waiting.

Happy Internatonal Women's Day!
This morning driving into work I was listening to my favourite radio station and they asked the question to callers "Who is the Bravest Woman you know?" A caller responded by saying that she is an adoptive parent of 3 beautiful children and the birth mothers of each of these children are the bravest women that she knows. Because out of their intense love for their children they made one of the hardest and most bravest decisions to give up their children for adoption and because of that the caller stated that she and her husband now have a loving family.

Step-Parent and Relative Adoptions in BC
Most step-parent or relative adoptions can be processed by a lawyer without agency or government involvement. However, when the child is aged 7 - 11, the child must be interviewed by an authorized person who then completes a report for the court. Social Workers at Family Services Adoption Agency are authorized to provide this service. Call us at 604.736.7613 for more information.
