Mother's Day is a chance to recognize the moms who never clock out: the ones working alongside us in the fire service, and the ones who were our first example of what it means to show up for others. Thank you for everything you carry. Happy Mother's Day.

Fire fighters don't work alone.

On every call and every shift, you rely on the person beside you.

That same principle applies to mental health. If you're struggling, or you notice a colleague who is, reach out. Talk to your leadership team. Access the resources available to you.

This work comes with real exposure to traumatic events. There's no shame in that, and there's no shame in asking for support. The strength of the fire service is in how we show up for each other, and that doesn't stop when the call ends.

This Mental Health Week, check in. The CMHA's theme this year is "Come Together, Canada" which reminds us that stronger connections mean better mental health.

This week is Emergency Preparedness Week in BC, and this year's theme, In It Together, is one fire fighters understand deeply.

Responding to emergencies is a team effort. But so is preparing for them.
PreparedBC reminds us that readiness isn't just about supplies. It's about the relationships and trust we build before an emergency happens. Knowing your neighbours, looking out for one another, and showing up for your community: that's what makes us all more resilient.

Take time this week to know the hazards in your area, gather your supplies, and make a home emergency plan.

Because when it matters most, we're stronger together.

FireOps 2026 took place in Revelstoke at the Southern Interior Local Government Association Conference, hosted by Revelstoke Fire Rescue Services Local 1746. Councillors and mayors from communities across the Okanagan joined affiliates and elected officials from SILGA member municipalities for hands-on training across a diverse range of scenarios, including navigating smoked-out stairways simulating single egress conditions, entanglement drills, and auto extrication techniques using vehicle wrecks donated by Mario’s Towing. Thank you to Local 1746 for hosting this year, to every local that brought their candidates and decision makers to the table, and to Mario’s Towing for making the extrication component possible. Understanding the job starts with doing the work.

Professional fire fighters train for every hazard, ready for whatever the call demands.

As BC’s communities grow, so does the demand for public safety. And we meet it.

Over 5,000 members across this province hold the standard high. Every shift. Every call.

This is what professional firefighting looks like in BC. Today, we honour that work alongside fire fighters around the world. 🚒
