Association of Neighbourhood Houses BC The Association of Neighbourhood Houses of B.C. What is a Neighbourhood House?

(ANHBC) oversees eight neighbourhood houses and an outdoor centre, through which we operate more than 300 community-based programs and services for a diversity of participants. A warm and friendly place where people of all ages and nationalities come together to meet the needs of their neighbourhood and play an active role in civil society in order to make their communities better places to live healthy, full lives.

At ANHBC Neighbourhood Houses, we are committed to listening and learning as we actively work toward decolonization. We strive to foster deeper understanding and respect for Indigenous cultures, and histories.

Our journey is guided by the teachings and values of those who came before us. As they cared for the land and one another, we carry that responsibility forward, acting as stewards of this land and community with care and a commitment to justice.

Throughout June, we honour National Indigenous History Month, culminating in National Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21.

Join us at our neighbourhood houses to connect, learn, and celebrate alongside our Indigenous partners and friends. Visit your nearest neighbourhood house's social media or website to learn more about their events!

June is Pride Month!

At ANHBC, we are proud to celebrate and uplift the diversity, resilience and beauty of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.

We are committed to ensuring that our participants, neighbours, volunteers and staff finds a safe, inclusive home at their local neighbourhood house where everyone belongs. Our neighbourhood houses celebrate the vibrant diversity and unwavering resilience of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community through a variety of programs, services and events throughout the year.

ANHBC has a vision for change and transformation across Metro Vancouver’s neighbourhoods. We are dedicated to collectively stewarding social change, decolonization and resilient neighbourhoods. We believe in our continued allyship and the right for everyone to live authentically and proudly.

Join us in lifting each other up, celebrating love, vibrant diversity, and the strength of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Jennifer Lyle as our next Chief Executive Officer, effective July 20, 2026. Jennifer will succeed Liz Lougheed Green, who will step down as CEO on July 31, following a planned leadership transition.

Jennifer joins ANHBC from the Alzheimer Society of BC and Yukon, where she has served as CEO since 2021. She brings extensive leadership experience across the non-profit, health, and community care sectors. A people-centred, transformational leader, Jennifer has deep experience working alongside community members to effect change.

She believes strongly in the values, vision, and mission of ANHBC. Her approach focuses on working alongside teams and partners to align on collective impact, translating shared vision into clear priorities, and deepening organizational resilience.

Learn more about Jennifer and the transition here: https://anhbc.org/2026/06/anhbc-announces-leadership-transition-and-appointment-of-new-ceo/

We will all miss Liz Lougheed Green, who led ANHBC through a period of significant stabilization, transformation and growth. She has remained in her role to support a thoughtful and complete transition, including a brief overlap period with Jennifer.

During her tenure, Liz guided a community-driven Strategic Transformation process centred on relationships, dialogue, and a shared commitment to Land, People and Place—helping to establish a strong foundation for ANHBC as a living and evolving organization.

The Board recognizes that this leadership transition comes at a time when many organizations across the sector are navigating funding pressures and increasing demand. However, it remains confident in ANHBC's ability to continue building healthy and engaged neighbourhoods by connecting people and strengthening our collective capacity to create change.

Help us in expressing gratitude to Liz and by welcoming Jennifer to ANHBC on July 20!

🎉 Happy BC Seniors Week!

Today, we celebrate the 10,370+ seniors who participate in ANHBC neighbourhood house programs each year, sharing their wisdom, experiences, and contributions that help our communities thrive.

While many older adults face growing challenges—from rising living costs to unaffordable housing and limited income—neighbourhood houses remain places of connection, belonging, and support.

This week, we honour the older adults who enrich our communities every day. 💙

📣 We’re thrilled to announce Jim Balakshin as the new Executive Director of Gordon Neighbourhood House (GNH), effective June 1st! 📣

Many across the Neighbourhood House Movement already know Jim through his longstanding leadership at GNH and across ANHBC. Over the years, he has consistently brought steadiness, care, and deep commitment to community in every role he has held. Most recently, Jim has been serving as Interim Associate Executive Director, helping guide the house through an important period of transition with his humility, calmness and relationship-building.

We also want to honour and thank Thanh Lam for her leadership over the past year. Thanh stepped into the ED role and led with heart and commitment to GNH, the West End community and ANHBC. Thanh has truly loved getting to know the GNH Staff Team and Community and while she needs to focus more time on her family, Thanh will continue working alongside Jim as a source of support and continuity through to the end of the year.

Please join us in warmly congratulating Jim and thanking Thanh. Gordon NH will continue to thrive through the leadership that both of them bring to this community. ❤️
