The Moose Hide Campaign is an Indigenous-led, B.C.-born movement that started to engage men and boys in ending violence against women and children. It has since grown to be a national campaign to speak out about gender-based and domestic violence. This year, on May 14, the Moose Hide Campaign is hosting a series of events to help deepen our understanding of gender-based violence and to show support for the campaign. Registration for the events can be found here: https://moosehidecampaign.ca/campaignday/

May 10, , is Spirit Bear's birthday and honours the memory of Jordan River Anderson through the full and proper implementation of Jordan's Principle, a child-first principle and legal rule named in Jordan's memory. It ensures First Nations children receive the services and supports they need, when they need them. 2026 is the 21st anniversary of Jordan's Principle.

BCCNM acknowledges and honours this day and reflects on the past with a look ahead to the future of shaping culturally safe care for all.

The expanded midwifery scope of practice will support timely, consistent, and person‑centred care for families across British Columbia, including in underserved communities. As the regulator, BCCNM plays a key role in ensuring expanded scope activities are implemented safely and in the public interest. We look forward to working with our partners and with midwives as these changes are incorporated into midwifery practice, in service of a more responsive maternity care system. — Natasha Prodan-Bhalla, CEO and registrar, BC College of Nurses and Midwives

Midwives are a trusted part of care for many people and families in BC.

We’re working to expand what midwives can do, so people can get more of the care they need from the provider they already know.

These changes will help midwives:
• order and perform ultrasounds when needed
• prescribe medications for common conditions during and after pregnancy
• provide care for early pregnancy loss and abortion

That means fewer extra appointments, less travel, and more consistent, connected care — especially in rural and remote communities.

We’re working with partners to bring these changes into effect as soon as possible.
