Days before graduating as the largest class in the history of the Long Beach Police Department (CA), Academy Class 100 completed the “Run to the Sea” - a long-standing tradition in our department. I had the privilege of joining nearly 100 members of the LBPD for this landmark moment. Thank you to the academy staff, department employees, and 85 new police officers for your inspiration and motivation during the run, and thank you to all of our department employees who continue to help us make history, while preserving cherished traditions!

Today, we proudly celebrated the graduation of LBPD Academy Class #100, a historic milestone for the Long Beach Police Department. ⭐🚨

After six months of rigorous training, 85 recruits graduated and are now prepared to serve the Long Beach community with courage, integrity, and compassion.

As the largest academy class in Department history, Class #100 reflects our continued commitment to preparing the next generation of officers to serve our community.

Great work officers! ❌🎆 ​

North Division officers recently seized 133 pounds of illegal fireworks and cited the subject for using, exploding, and possessing them. As the Fourth of July approaches, officers will continue citywide enforcement efforts. ​

Remember: ALL fireworks — including those labeled “Safe and Sane” — are illegal in Long Beach. ​

We would like everyone to enjoy the holiday weekend and remind everyone to celebrate safely. ​We will have an increased police presence on our beaches on the 4th of July.

This year, there will be limited access to the Bayshore beach area, which will be fenced off and gated, subject to both beach capacity and a bag/cooler check. Prohibited items will not be allowed within the beach area.​
​
Keep in mind, the below violations will be enforced:​
⚫ Public consumption of alcoholic beverages​
⚫ Minors under the age of 21 possessing open containers of alcohol​
⚫ Possession and use of fireworks​
⚫ Urinating or defecating in public​
⚫ Loud parties and music​
⚪ Includes DJ equipment on the beach or the front yard of residences ​
⚫ Using portable barbecues or open flame grills in parks and on beaches​

Please clean up any items you bring and do not leave trash on the beach.​

Acts of violence like this are never acceptable and it is regretful that this crime involved juveniles. Over the past few days our Long Beach Police Department (CA) patrol officers, SWAT personnel, and homicide detectives have worked nonstop on this incident. Through their exceptional efforts we were able to secure critical evidence, identify the suspect, and make an arrest. We will never allow youth violence to become normalized in our community.

Through their investigation, Homicide detectives quickly identified the suspect as a 15-year-old male resident of Long Beach. They developed a plan to locate and safely apprehend the suspect.
