This Bike to Work Week, remember that when the time comes, bicycle tires and tubes are recyclable through BC's tire stewardship program, Tire Stewardship BC!

Many bike retailers province-wide particpate in this free drop-off program, and your tires and tubes can find new life as crumb rubber for items like the rubber mats used in farms, playground surfaces, arenas, and gym flooring, and landscaping mulch.

When it's time to upgrade your old electrical outdoor power equipment, don't forget to reuse or recycle! Equipment still in good condition can often live another life, look for online marketplaces and buy nothing groups to find a great new home for that too-small lawnmower or no longer needed chainsaw! And when it's time for recycling, look for depots participating in the Outdoor Power Equipment Institute of Canada's recycling program for free drop offs and responsible recycling of your end of life equipment.

Are your items gas powered? Many metal recyclers accept gas powered equipment for recycling, too! Ensure any fluids are drained (and responsibly recycled) and you'll be good to go.

Questions or looking for drop off options? Contact us at rcbc.ca/contact and our Environmental Advisors will be happy to help.

If you're heading to the campground, the beach, or a backyard BBQ this spring and summer, don't forget to plan ahead to responsibly and safely recycle those propane and butane cylinders. These cylinders contain flammable gases under pressure, making it extra important to ensure that they are managed properly! Keep these items out of your curbside and multi-family bins, and bring them to a recycling facility for safe handling.

For information about recycling options in your area, find us at rcbc.ca/contact.

Did you know that some communities host annual events or year-round programs to collect household hazardous waste from residents? Accepted materials often include household cleaning supplies, garden chemicals like fertilizers, mercury, and products not accepted in provincial programs such as due to lack of required labels or being outside of the original packaging. Looking for information about household hazardous waste disposal programs in your area? Find us at rcbc.ca/contact - our team of Environmental Advisors are here to help!

Today from 8:30pm - 9:30pm is the 20th anniversary of , an annual event that encourages us to turn off non-essential lights for one hour to raise awareness for energy efficiency and environmental protection.

Participants are encouraged to use this time doing something positive for the planet. Our suggestions? Head outdoors and turn your walk into a mini community clean up, gather end-of-life items for that next trip to the recycling depot, or make a plan to use up any leftover food from the week to reduce food waste.
