Municipal District of Greenview No. 16

Municipal District of Greenview No. 16 Greenview's Official Page: our residents enjoy a booming economy & abundant recreation options. Like us & see why Greenview is the best place to be today!

Welcome to the third-largest rural municipality in the province, a municipality where landscape, services and the room to stretch combine to provide citizens and visitors with a wide range of business, cultural and recreational activities. The title of our newsletter From Meadows to Mountains describes our landscape, but it’s our people that make the difference. Whether you’re here for the night or a lifetime, you’ll find us friendly, hard-working and resourceful. The Municipal District includes the hamlets of Little Smoky, Ridgevalley, DeBolt, Landry Heights, Grande Cache and Grovedale. Our borders encompass the Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation and the towns of Fox Creek, and Valleyview, while Grande Prairie is our neighbour to the west. Serviced by Highways 40, 43 and 49, railways and a major airport in Grande Prairie, transportation is convenient and efficient. Agriculture, forestry, oil and gas, coal and tourism are all mainstays of both the local and provincial economies. Approximately one-quarter of the land within Greenview is suitable for agricultural development, with other natural resource development primarily in the foothills and green areas in the south and west of the M.D. Recreation and cultural facilities abound, with a variety of museums, arenas, golf courses, parks and community halls. The Municipal District of Greenview No. 16 provides a wide variety of services with a dedicated council and professional staff. We welcome your comments and questions.

Firefighters’ National Memorial Day | September 13, 2026

On the second Sunday of September, we honour the firefighters who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

Firefighters’ National Memorial Day is a time to remember their service and sacrifice, while recognizing the families, friends and fellow firefighters who continue to carry their memory.

It is also a reminder of the risks firefighters face in service to their communities, and the courage and commitment required each time they answer the call.

On Sunday, September 13, Greenview flags will be lowered to half-mast in remembrance of Canada’s fallen firefighters.

We remember those we have lost and thank all firefighters who continue to serve their communities.

Greenview crews will begin fall hydrant flushing on September 14, 2026 in the following areas:

• Little Smoky
• Valleyview Rural
• Ridgevalley
• DeBolt
• Grovedale/Landry Heights

Residents can expect to see crews in these communities conducting routine hydrant flushing to help maintain water quality and ensure the water distribution system continues to operate efficiently.

During flushing, some residents may experience temporary low water pressure or discoloured water. If this occurs, simply run a cold water tap until the water runs clear.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation as this important maintenance work is completed. For questions or concerns, please contact Greenview Environmental Services at 780.524.7600.
