Our story
On June 1st, 2014 St. Alexander’s church officially closed. On June 19th, a group of neigbors came together to review options for saving the building and, in the process hopefully, bringing the community together. On the 31st of August, 2015 the group (Centre Lochiel Centre) became incorporated under the Ontario Historical Society and received its Charitable Status in April, 2016.
The groups purpose is to protect and maintain the now 166 year-old building formerly St.Alexander church. The group has a long term lease since the church cannot be severed from the cemetary.
In 2017, all of the pews were removed and the floors were sanded and varnished.
