🏄‍♀️ Wickaninnish Beach in will be the backdrop for the Vancouver Island Longboard Surf Contest from June 11 to 14, 2026.🏄‍♂️

This 4-day event hosted by West Coast Shapes Ukee is a qualifying event for the CSA Surf Canada National Longboard Teams (Men and Women).

For those attending and for those visiting the area please remember:

You are in the homelands and ancestral territories of the Nuu-chah-nulth-aht and we all visit, work and recreate using the guiding principles of:
🌎 hišuk maa ćawaak (he shook maa tsa walk) – everything is one
🌲ʔuuʔałuuk (uu a thluk) – taking care of
🐾 iisaak (ee-saak) – respect

🐕‍🦺 Leave your dog at home: Dogs are prohibited in the competition area of Wickaninnish Beach and the surrounding Kwisitis area.

⚠️ A wolf warning remains in effect across the entire Long Beach Unit, along with several area closures. Wolves range widely and encounters can occur anywhere in the region.

🚲 🚗 Consider carpooling or cycling to the event. Parking will be limited, please only park in designated parking spaces and not on the grass or shoulders.

⛔ The Kʷisitis area will be closed on June 3 and 4, 2026.

This closure includes the Kʷisitis Visitor Centre, the Kʷisitis Visitor Centre parking lot, the South Beach trail, the Nuu-chah-nulth trail, and the southern end of Wickaninnish Beach (including Lismer Beach and South Beach).

✅ The three Wickaninnish Beach parking lots and Beach Accesses A, B, C, D, and E will remain open.
✅ The Shorepine Bog Trail and Florencia Bay will also remain open.

Parks Canada, with participation from 19 Wing Comox, conducted Exercise SURF BREAK in Pacific Rim National Park Reserve in April —a hands-on, multi agency exercise focused on responding to a near shore vessel capsizing with multiple subjects in the water.

These exercises are part of spring training that helps ensure the Visitor Safety Team remains prepared to respond quickly and effectively to emergencies.
