The Tyendinaga Police Service continues to move forward with its Board development plan as the Service transitions toward a standalone policing model.

As part of this transition, starting on May 25th, 2026, Sgt. Nathan Leland will be assuming the role and responsibilities of Acting Chief of Police.

The Service would also like to recognize Sgt. Chris Brinklow for his strong leadership and ongoing dedication to the community. Sgt. Brinklow will now be moving internally to oversee Supervisory Frontline responsibilities within the Service.

These organizational developments reflect the continued growth, professionalism, and long-term vision of the Tyendinaga Police Service as it works to strengthen community-based policing for the future.

We are reminding everyone that the speed limit on Highway 49 through Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory has officially been reduced from 80 km/h to 60 km/h.

This change is the result of long-term consultation and collaboration between Tyendinaga Police, MBQ Chief and Council, and the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) to improve road safety and help prevent motor vehicle collisions within our community.

Motorists are asked to obey the new posted speed limit and drive safely through the Territory.

On Thursday, April 30, 2026, the Tyendinaga Police Service, with assistance from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), executed three search warrants at separate businesses as part of an investigation into the unlicensed sale of alcohol. A significant quantity of alcohol was seized.

During the ex*****on of the search warrants, police also located and subsequently seized suspected psilocybin‑related products.

No cannabis or tobacco/nicotine‑related products were seized. The investigation remains ongoing, and charges are pending.

The Tyendinaga Police Service mourns the line‑of‑duty death of Ontario Provincial Police Sgt. Brandon Malcolm.

Sgt. Malcolm gave his life in service to the people of Ontario. His dedication, professionalism, and commitment to public safety reflect the very best of policing, and his loss is felt deeply across the law‑enforcement community.

Deaths like these hit close to home for all police families. Whether you wear the uniform, support someone who does, or have worn it in the past, this kind of loss is a stark reminder of the risks our members face and the shared bond that exists across services.

Our thoughts are with Sgt. Malcolm’s family, friends, and colleagues at the Ontario Provincial Police during this incredibly difficult time. We stand with you in grief and solidarity.

Off-Road Vehicle Safety Reminder

The Tyendinaga Police Service reminds community members and visitors to operate off-road vehicles, including ATVs and Side-by-Sides, safely and responsibly when travelling on or near roadways.

When permitted on roadways, operators must:

*Travel on the shoulder only and not interfere with traffic

*Follow reduced speeds:
-Maximum of 50 km/h in an 80 km/h zone
-Maximum of 25 km/h in a 50 km/h zone

*Hold a valid driver’s licence and insurance

*Ensure vehicles are properly plated and registered

*Wear an approved helmet at all times, including Side-by-Side riders

*Obey all traffic laws, including stopping at stop signs and using hand signals when turning

Officers have observed an increase in riders without helmets, including those operating Side-by-Sides. This is a serious safety concern. Helmet use is required and significantly reduces the risk of injury.

Your Tyendinaga Police Service encourages all riders to take pride in safe, respectful riding to help keep our community safe.

With the arrival of spring, the Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory enters a season traditionally associated with renewal, the growth of plant life, and the upcoming walleye harvest season.

This is a time of reflection, stewardship, and respect for the land and waters that sustain our people.

The Tyendinaga Police Service reaffirms its unwavering commitment to respecting and protecting the sovereignty of our lands for the benefit of the people of the Six Nations and, in particular, the Kenhtekehró:non. (People of Tyendinaga)

As was the case last year, the Tyendinaga Police Service remains on the same enforcement trajectory and will maintain a zero-tolerance approach toward the exploitation of our lands and resources by organized crime groups seeking to operate for monetary gain. Our territory will not be used as a base for criminal activity.

The Tyendinaga Police Service will continue to actively investigate individuals and properties believed to be associated with organized crime activity, including but not limited to illicit cannabis grow operations. Where criminal activity is identified, police will take decisive enforcement action to bring those operations to an end.

These efforts are undertaken in the best interests of our community, our safety, and our future generations. Protecting the land protects the people.

Tyendinaga Police Service officers provided assistance to Belleville Police in the Shannonville area during an active incident involving a driver experiencing medical distress who had left the City of Belleville.

As a result of the incident, temporary traffic congestion occurred at the intersection of York Road and Old Highway 2 while emergency services responded and ensured public safety.

All emergency services have now cleared the area, and the intersection is fully open to normal traffic flow.

The Tyendinaga Police Service thanks the public for their patience and cooperation during this incident.

🥍 Nia:wenkowa Tyendinaga! 🏒

On March 7, 2026, the Tyendinaga Police Service and the Mohawk Fire Department faced off for a charity hockey game, and thanks to this incredible community it was a packed house! Like all good Hero stories, the good guys won!!

Because of your support, we are proud to share that over $3,270 was raised to support local youth sports in Tyendinaga.

The proceeds will be shared between two amazing organizations:

🏒 Tyendinaga Thrashers – who are heading off next week to represent our community at the annual LNHL Hockey Tournament.

🥍 Tyendinaga Minor Lacrosse Association – helping support the next generation of lacrosse players in our community.

Events like this are only possible because of the people who step up to help. We would like to extend a huge thank you to all of our volunteers, sponsors, and everyone who came out to support the event.
