Councillor Malcolm Madden had a unique opportunity to take part in the Peace Run as it passed through our area.

The Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run is a global torch relay that gives people around the world a chance to express their hope for peace. Since it began in 1987, the Peace Run has visited more than 150 countries and territories and has touched the lives of millions of people. The relay does not raise money or promote a political cause. Its goal is to create goodwill among people of all nations.

As luck would have it, the Peace Run team ran right by Councillor Madden. After seeing the Peace Torch, he went and got his own torch: the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Torch, which he had the honour of running with during the Olympic Torch Relay.

The two torches were exchanged for a short time, and the Peace Run team quickly discovered that Councillor Madden’s Olympic torch was a little heavier than theirs!

Thank you to the Peace Run team for sharing this special moment with our community.

Great news for Tusket and the Municipality of Argyle.

The Province of Nova Scotia has announced that design work is underway for up to 16 new public housing units on J.E. Hatfield Court, helping provide safe and affordable housing for about 50 people.

About 50 people in Tusket, in the Municipality of Argyle, will have access to safe, affordable housing with design work underway for up to 16 new public housing units.

Each of the apartments on J.E. Hatfield Court will have a patio or balcony, private entrance, energy efficient appliances and heat pumps to keep tenants warm in winter and cool in summer. At least two apartments will be fully accessible, and other apartments can be made accessible if needed.

The site is close to Highway 103, schools, municipal offices, gas and convenience stores and other small businesses, and a short drive to Yarmouth.

Nova Scotia’s zzap Architecture and Planning is now working on preliminary designs; construction is expected to start next year, following a request for proposals.
