Yellow advisory - frost - in effect

Conditions are favourable for the development of frost tonight.

Locations: all of Nova Scotia.

Minimum temperatures: near zero in low lying areas.

Time span: overnight tonight into Monday morning.

Remarks: Showers are expected to end this evening and the cloud is expected to partially clear out by morning. This will lead to temperatures dropping near zero overnight in some areas.

Damage to plants, trees, and crops is possible.

Frost advisories are issued when widespread frost or freezing temperatures are expected during the growing season.

This week is Emergency Preparedness Week and this year’s theme is “Know Your Risks.” Make sure you take time to know the hazards in your area and learn how you and your family can be prepared for them. An emergency kit, go bag, and emergency plan can make all the difference in a pinch!

Rain, at times heavy, is expected.

Locations: Yarmouth, Shelburne, Queens, Lunenburg and Halifax counties.

Total rainfall: 30 to 50 mm, possibly higher in thundershowers.

Time span: intensifying tonight, continuing into Friday.

Remarks: Rain will intensify over southwestern Nova Scotia late this evening, reaching the Halifax Metro region just after midnight. A few thundershowers may develop tonight, possibly leading to rainfall rates of 5 to 10 mm per hour over some areas. Rain will taper off from west to east through the day on Friday.

Water will likely pool on roads and in low-lying areas.

Rainfall warnings are issued when significant impacts are expected due to rainfall amounts.
