🌱 Spring is here… and so is wildfire season. 🔥

The RM of Mervin No. 499 is reminding residents that conditions can change quickly, and wildfires can start and spread faster than you think.

✅ Were you approved for a burn permit?
If you received approval from September/October 2025 to April 30, 2026, please return to your burn site and physically check the area to ensure there are no remaining hot spots or hazards.

⚠️ Stay Fire Smart:
• Dry grass, leaves, and wind can turn small sparks into major fires
• Wildfires can happen anytime, anywhere

🛑 Do your part:
• Be Aware – Know current fire danger and restrictions
• Be Prepared – Clean up dry debris around your property
• Use Equipment Safely – Follow instructions and keep equipment maintained

💬 We all have a role to play — together, we can prevent wildfires.

🔥 Wildfires don’t wait. Neither should we.
👉 Be prepared. Be responsible. Be fire smart.

Today, on International Firefighters’ Day, we honour firefighters around the world — the ones who put their lives on the line, protect their communities with courage, and carry the weight of this calling with strength and humility. From busy cities to small towns, from volunteer halls to career departments, thank you for the sacrifices you make and the dedication you bring to the fire service every single day.

We also want to recognize the departments around us — the ones who stand beside us on mutual‑aid calls, share their knowledge, and work with us to protect the people we all serve. Your support and partnership matter, and we’re grateful for the teamwork that keeps our region strong.

But today, our deepest appreciation goes to our own firefighters. To the ones who leave family dinners, warm beds, and busy days behind to answer the call. To the ones who show up in the worst weather, the toughest moments, and the calls that stay with you long after they’re over. To the ones who train late, push each other, and never stop striving to be better.

You are the backbone of this department. You are the reason we can serve our community with confidence. And you are the definition of what it means to be a firefighter.

Thank you for everything you do — today and every day. Stay safe, stay strong, and know how proud we are to stand with you.

A smoke alarm recall has been issued in Canada over safety concerns.

Health Canada says the affected model lacks proper certification, meaning it may not work as intended in the presence of smoke.

Consumers are being told to stop using the product immediately. Read more on the WestCentralOnline app and website. https://linktr.ee/WestCentralOnline
