Just in case anyone hasn't seen my other posts... Amalgamation, though being supported for recommendation by the Minister of Municipal Affairs, has been sent back to town councils for another vote. So here we go again.

If you support amalgamation (like I whole-heartedly do, hence my vote last year), please like and follow this page I Support Diamond Valley Amalgamation and check out www.supportdvamalgamation.com for FOUR simple actions you can do to make sure your voice is heard.

Huge congrats to all of the newly elected and returning councilors in Black Diamond & Turner Valley. We are in safe hands for the next couple years!

Also, a giant thank you to everyone that put their hand up to run. It takes courage and a strong desire to make our community better, and I know how difficult the decision can be.

I'm heading over to vote right away, I hope you've carved out a time to as well.

Here's a little story about why I care so much about municipal politics in Diamond Valley.

One of my co-workers just conditionally purchased a beautiful home in Black Diamond. We were talking a couple weeks back and they mentioned that they were looking to move out of the city and they really enjoy spending time in the mountains. They want more space for their dogs to run around and they were struggling to find something affordable in the city.

I talked to them about living in Diamond Valley and they seemed pretty keen. This morning, I woke up to news that they have a deal. Awesome!

And that they purchased this place sight unseen? That is the power of telling our story. In my mind, people are crazy to live anywhere else.

I look forward to the story that the winners tonight will tell over the next couple of years. Best of luck to everyone! And GO VOTE!

And just like that's it's CONDITIONALLY SOLD!!! 116 Riverwood Bay is now under contract.

We are so happy to work with clients from across Canada and Realtors that make these connections possible.

As a fellow "W" name, I know all too well the pain of being last in the rotation.

Last, but certainly not least, Re-Elect John Waring is an incumbent councilor with a funny accent that moved to Canada and has worked in project management & business development around the world. John & Irene settled in Turner Valley for the rural environment & proximity to a golf course. John has been a prolific volunteer and walks miles and miles on the pathways of the Diamond Valley area.

Amalgamation is critical to John and supporting administration through the transition process is a critical aspect. Working as a team, developing parks, pathways and recreation, and fiscal responsibility are important.

John can be reached on Facebook or on email at [email protected].

Now please make sure you vote!

Garry Raab for Turner Valley Council is an incumbent councilor, seeking re-election. Garry and his wife moved to Turner Valley in 2009 after a successful career as an teacher and administrator.

Fiscal responsibility has always been and will continue to be critical to Mr. Raab and aligning with our neighbours will be critical with amalgamation looming.

Garry is also very focused on upcoming upgrades with the Westend Sewage Commission that are required to meet environmental standards; this is a major project and Garry has been critical to stewarding it along.

Garry can be reached on Facebook or by email at [email protected].

L. Gunnar Pearson moved to the Longview area many years ago to escape a Calgary teacher's strike and went to Oilfields. Gunnar ultimately settled in Turner Valley for a number of reasons (including the school system for his children).

Gunnar works in tax and bookkeeping and ensuring financial sustainability (and that residents have the information that they need) is critical to Gunnar. Financial literacy education is a passion that he hopes to apply to the job of councillor.

Gunnar can be reached on Facebook or by email at [email protected].

Hazel Martin has deep roots in Turner Valley (being born at the Turner Valley Municipal Hospital) and, along with her husband Gene, has always worked within the community while raising their three children.

Hazel has been a prolific volunteer (from sports societies to the pool society to the Sheep Creek Arts Society) and worked for the Town of Turner Valley for 25 years in a variety of roles. With her recent retirement, she is looking for an opportunity to give back to the community. Hazel hopes to balance future development while maintaining that special feel that drew many of us to Turner Valley.

Cindy Holladay for Turner Valley Council moved to Turner Valley when Mr. Holladay was transferred to be an administrator at Turner Valley School. Despite getting "transferred out" to High River, the Holladay's couldn't leave our great little town.

Cindy has a background as a forensic accountant (look out!) and focuses very heavily on the finance side of things. Cindy is proud of the accomplishments of the previous council and looks forward to continuing those efforts if elected for another term.

Cindy can be reached on Facebook or by email at [email protected].

About Jamie

This piece of heaven that Iโ€™ve found Rocky Mountains and black fertile ground Everything I need beneath that big blue sky Doesnโ€™t matter where I go This place will always be my home Yeah Iโ€™ve been Alberta Bound for all my life And Iโ€™ll be Alberta Bound until I die

-Paul Brandt; Alberta Bound

I was born and raised in the small (now not so small) town of Strathmore, Alberta. I have amazing parents and an occasionally not annoying younger brother and grew up a very normal life in the 1980โ€™s and 1990โ€™s full of Ninja Turtles, Nintendo and, eventually, Nirvana.

As a citizen of a bedroom community, I witnessed many of the challenges living in the shadow of a major urban centre:
