Tracadie & Area, Prince Edward Island

Tracadie & Area, Prince Edward Island This page on Tracadie and Area, PEI will feature stories, photos and podcasts. Tracadie was one of the earliest areas settled on Prince Edward Island.

Known by the Mi'kmaq word Telakadik, meaning "camp ground," the area was used by the the First Nations for temporary camping while fishing in the summer months. The French settled here in the early 1700s then were deported by the British in 1758. This history project will focus on the Irish and Scots who settled in Glenroy, Scotchfort, Afton Rd, Tracadie, Portage Rd, Blooming Point, Donaldston, Ten Mile House and Milcove. This informal social history will be featured on Facebook and in podcasts with a booklet to be completed for Christmas, 2016.

Congrats Lester & crew.
