Imagine leaving work… and swimming home instead.

In the Swiss city of Basel, thousands of people do exactly that during the warmer months.

After work, locals pack their clothes, shoes, phones, and valuables into a waterproof floating bag called a Wickelfisch, step into the Rhine River, and let the current carry them through the heart of the city.

The Rhine is clean enough for swimming, and the floating bags keep their belongings dry while doubling as buoyancy aids. Commuters simply drift past Basel’s historic old town before climbing out near home.

What would be a traffic jam almost anywhere else becomes one of the world’s most scenic commutes.

There won't be a gathering in June. I'll be in Nfld. July will be more of a garden party. Anybody who is allergic to cats can certainly come.
