FRAUD WARNING

Providing fake income documents to get a mortgage is a criminal act punishable by up to 14 years in prison.
(under Section 380(1) of the Criminal Code)

Under Bill C‑31 in certain cases, the Canada Revenue Agency can bypass you and force employers, banks, family, friends, and neighbours to provide statements about your past income and your standard of living.

This means the CRA can cross‑check your reported tax filings with the numbers used to get your mortgage — without notifying you first.
