When I was a kid, police would chase. One chase ended with 1 friend dead and another seriously injured. Great work TPS! Everyone but the driver went home to their families this night.

Here we go. You cannot properly examine a witness remotely. It very rarely happens but I have caught officers giving unreliable testimony. That came from face to face interactions during cross examination. I see two troubling quotes from this article. "Having the officers in the courtroom for the trial, creates a real risk of transmission to counsel, the accused and staff.". "There is no meaningful benefit to be gained under these particular circumstances, while, at the same time, there are potential adverse affects from hearing these officers testify in person."
But my kids can go to school and I can eat in a restaurant without a mask? Staff at Supermarkets have to work but the courts have to remain remote?

These tickets carry 0 demerit points and do not appear on your driver's abstract. The ticket is issued to the owner of the car much like a parking ticket.

The cameras were supposed to start issuing tickets in April but that was pushed back because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

I am guessing this is either sitting as a prize in someone's living room or already at the scrap yard, already pulled apart for the copper and whatever other metals are inside. They would have not been able to steal a police car which would have been able to give a real ticket instead of this minor monetary penalty with no demerit points or insurance ramifications.

These tickets will not carry demerit points nor will they increase your insurance premiums. This article stated summons will be given to anyone driving 50 over. How do they know who the driver is? How will they serve the summons? A part 3 summons can not be mailed.

Starting July 6, speed cameras across the city will start issuing tickets to drivers who are going too fast near schools.

We DO NOT want to have a trial by video! How can you determine credibility or lack of it? How do you know someone isn't off camera coaching the civilian witness or police officer?
The other troubling part of this article is when they talk about saving money on trials. There should never be a question of cost when serving justice.

I have seen much worse. And the article is wrong in saying that there could be potentially higher fines for speeding with a summons. Speeding carries a fixed fine. It can not be lowered or raised. It is set by the Chief Justice according to the speed. Drive safe!

I have worked with the Police 5 days a week for 7 years now. Seeking evidence, running trials, having a laugh. I didn't realize how much I missed some of these guys. It is nice when they stop by the office to say hello.
