✊ LABOUR IS CARE. COMMUNITY IS WORK.

This Labour Day, we recognize the people whose work too often goes unseen.

The frontline workers. Outreach teams. Housing workers. Harm reduction workers. Food-service staff. Health-care providers. Peer workers. Community workers—and all those who show up every day to care for people and strengthen our neighbourhoods. ❤️

At Margaret’s, we know that building community takes work.

🍽️ It happens in meals prepared and shared.
🤝 In wellness checks and conversations.
🏠 In helping someone find housing.
❤️‍🩹 In showing up during a crisis.
👋 In knowing someone’s name—and noticing when they are missing.

Today, we honour the people behind that work and the dignity of every worker.

To everyone whose labour helps hold our communities together: thank you. ✊❤️

Our work. Our people. Our community.

On International Overdose Awareness Day, we remember those we’ve lost, stand with those who grieve, and reaffirm our commitment to saving lives through awareness, education, harm reduction and compassionate support.

Every person lost to overdose was more than a statistic. They were family members, friends, neighbours and members of our communities. Their lives mattered, and their absence is deeply felt.

At Margaret’s, we believe everyone deserves care, dignity and support without judgement. By challenging stigma, meeting people where they are, and ensuring access to life-saving harm reduction and low-barrier supports, we can help prevent overdose and save lives.

Today, we remember. We support. And we continue the work toward a future where fewer lives are lost.

Members of the Margaret's Housing & Community Support Services team were honoured to attend Emancipation Flag Day at Toronto City Hall.

The raising of the Emancipation Flag is a powerful reminder of the resilience, strength, and enduring contributions of Black communities, while recognizing the ongoing pursuit of equity, justice, and freedom. It is an opportunity to reflect on our shared history and reaffirm our commitment to building inclusive communities where everyone is treated with dignity and respect.

At Margaret's, we believe that culturally responsive, equitable care is essential to helping individuals thrive. We are proud to stand alongside our community in recognizing this important day and celebrating the rich history, leadership, and contributions of Black Canadians.

Together, we continue the work of creating communities where everyone has the opportunity to belong.

🍁 Happy Canada Day 🍁

Today, we celebrate the people, communities, and shared values that make Canada home.

On this Canada Day, we extend our gratitude to our staff, volunteers, donors, community partners, and the many individuals who make Margaret's work possible. Your compassion, commitment, and generosity help build stronger, healthier, and more inclusive communities every day.

We also warmly welcome those who are new to Canada. Whether you arrived recently or are still finding your footing, we recognize the courage it takes to begin again in a new place. Your experiences, cultures, and contributions enrich our communities and help shape the Canada of today and tomorrow.

Canada Day is also an opportunity to reflect on the work that remains. Across our country, too many people continue to face barriers to housing, healthcare, food security, safety, and belonging. Indigenous Peoples continue to advocate for truth, justice, and reconciliation, while many individuals and families navigate the realities of poverty, homelessness, and rising costs of living.

At Margaret's, we believe that dignity, housing, healthcare, and community connection are not privileges—they are fundamental to a healthy and inclusive society.

As we celebrate today, let us recommit ourselves to building communities where everyone feels valued, supported, and welcomed.

🧡 Honour Indigenous Peoples and the ongoing journey of reconciliation.
🏠 Recognize housing as a human right.
🤝 Foster belonging, inclusion, and community care.
❤️ Work toward a future where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

From all of us at Margaret's, we wish our clients, staff, volunteers, donors, partners, neighbours, and newcomers a safe, joyful, and meaningful Canada Day.

🌈 Happy Pride!

What an incredible day celebrating love, diversity, inclusion, and community at the Toronto Pride Parade! 🏳️‍🌈

This year, Margaret's was proud to march alongside our staff, clients, volunteers, and allies in celebration of the vibrant 2SLGBTQIA+ community. It was a day filled with joy, connection, laughter, and the shared belief that everyone deserves to be seen, respected, and celebrated for who they are.

At Margaret's, we know that Pride is about more than a parade. It's about creating communities where everyone feels safe, welcome, and valued. It's about standing together in support of dignity, equity, and belonging—not just during Pride Month, but every day of the year.

🏳️‍🌈 Thank you to everyone who marched with us, cheered us on, and helped make this year's Pride Parade such a memorable experience.

Together, we're building a community where everyone belongs.

❤️ Happy Pride from all of us at Margaret's!

🏳️‍🌈🧠 LGBTQ2S+ Communities and Mental Health

Mental health matters.

While being LGBTQ2S+ is not a mental health issue, experiences such as discrimination, stigma, rejection, housing instability, and social isolation can have a significant impact on well-being.

Many LGBTQ2S+ individuals face barriers to safe housing, affirming healthcare, and mental health support, contributing to higher rates of anxiety, depression, trauma, and other mental health challenges.

But there is another side to this story:

🌈 Community

🤝 Connection

❤️ Acceptance

🏠 Safe housing

Research shows that when LGBTQ2S+ individuals have access to supportive communities, affirming services, and safe spaces where they can be themselves, mental health outcomes improve significantly.

At Margaret's, we believe everyone deserves access to housing, healthcare, and support without fear of discrimination or judgment.

🏳️‍🌈 Everyone deserves to feel safe.

🧠 Everyone deserves access to mental health support.

❤️ Everyone deserves a place where they belong.

🌈🏳️‍⚧️ Pride Is Community. Pride Is Resistance.

Today, the streets of Toronto are filled with colour, celebration, music, and joy.
But Pride did not begin as a celebration. Pride began as a movement for justice.
Pride exists because generations of 2SLGBTQIA+ people fought back against discrimination, criminalization, violence, and exclusion.

✊🏿 It exists because q***r and trans communities refused to be silenced.

🏳️‍⚧️ It exists because activists, advocates, and community leaders demanded the right to live openly, safely, and authentically.

While Pride is a time of celebration, it is also a time of reflection. For many 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals, significant barriers still exist.

Today, we celebrate the resilience, diversity, and contributions of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities.

🌈 We celebrate authenticity.

🏳️‍⚧️ We celebrate courage.

💙 We celebrate belonging.

And we recommit ourselves to building communities rooted in equity, inclusion, dignity, and care. Because Pride is more than a celebration.

✊ Pride is community.

🏳️‍🌈 Pride is belonging.

❤️ Pride is resilience.

🌈 And Pride reminds us that everyone deserves the freedom to live as their authentic self.
Happy Pride from all of us at Margaret's.

🏳️‍🌈 Understanding LGBTQ2S+ Homelessness

When many people think about homelessness, they think primarily about the loss of housing.

But for many LGBTQ2S+ individuals, homelessness often begins long before a person loses a place to live. It can begin with rejection.

💔 Rejection from family members after coming out.

🏠 The loss of a safe home environment.

🚫 Discrimination in housing, employment, healthcare, or education.

🤝 A lack of affirming spaces where people feel accepted, respected, and supported.

For some, it means being forced to leave home. For others, it means experiencing violence, isolation, or exclusion because of who they are.

Many LGBTQ2S+ individuals, particularly youth, face unique challenges that increase their risk of housing instability and homelessness. Research consistently shows that LGBTQ2S+ youth are disproportionately represented among people experiencing homelessness in Canada.

This reality is not a reflection of who they are. It is a reflection of the barriers, discrimination, and lack of support that too many continue to face.

🧠 Homelessness can have significant impacts on mental health and well-being.

🏥 It can create barriers to accessing healthcare and support services.

🌱 It can make it more difficult to pursue education, employment, and long-term stability.

Yet behind these challenges are individuals with incredible strength, resilience, and hope.

At Margaret's, we believe that everyone deserves to feel safe, respected, and valued.

🏳️‍🌈 Everyone deserves to be treated with dignity.

❤️ Everyone deserves access to support without fear of judgment.

🏠 Everyone deserves safe and stable housing.

🤝 Everyone deserves a community where they can belong.

Creating safer communities means more than providing housing alone. It means creating environments where people are affirmed for who they are. It means ensuring that services are inclusive, welcoming, and accessible. It means standing against discrimination and fostering communities rooted in compassion, respect, and belonging.

📱 Less scrolling. More connecting.

We're excited to support the launch of MARGE — a new Toronto-based initiative that creates experiences that bring people together through movement, conversation, culture, and community.

In a world where so much of life happens online, MARGE is creating opportunities to step away from our screens and build real connections with real people.

And the best part? ❤️

Every ticket purchased helps support Margaret's work with women and individuals experiencing homelessness, mental health challenges, substance use, and housing instability.

Connection has the power to change lives. Whether it's a conversation, a new friendship, a sense of belonging, or access to support when it's needed most — community matters.

We're proud to partner with a group of young leaders who are turning social connection into social impact.

🎟️ Come for the experience.
🤝 Stay for the community.
❤️ Support a cause that matters.
