Yes, we really are going to lose all life on this planet if we don't make some radical changes. We need to fiercely protect every pocket of life that is left until this hellstorm blows over, hopefully leaving survivors. There are over 20 animals on the Species at Risk Act living in the Scarborough Bluffs. Their lives and their habitats will be lost forever if we allow the Scarborough Waterfront Project to be approved. The lives of the Bank swallows, Bats, Snapping turtles, Bobolinks and all need to be protected to prevent further extinctions. It all begins locally! If every small community can do this, we can make a difference. We need to stop this insanity.

There's lots of talk about the Scarborough Waterfront Project, and as many of you may have known, we've been a Stakeholder on that project. We've come to the conclusion that we cannot support the SWP or the TRCA in this matter, and we've developed our own set of recommendations for The Bluffs.

Happy Squirrel Appreciation Day! If you didn't get a chance to treat your local squirrels with some nuts today, take the time to do so tomorrow. I always imagine squirrel as being miniature Forest Rangers....planting nuts that become tomorrow's trees!

Happy Squirrel Appreciation Day! We would like to thank all of the generous people who have appreciated the squirrels in care at Toronto Wildlife Centre by donating nuts! When our staff looked inside this den box to do a quick check-up on the patients inside they found that the squirrels living there had been stock piling your generous donations!

Research from the Royal Ontario Museum in The Bluffs has shown that 8/8 bat species found in Ontario can be found in the Scarborough Bluffs! 3 of those species are critically endangered. Another good reason to favour a conservation approach over a development project focused on human recreation.

Hey everyone, guess what? The Wild Bluffs is still alive! Yes, it's been a while since we've posted anything, and it's true that the two founders have moved to Northern Ontario. However, we continue to remain on the Stakeholder Committee for the Scarborough Waterfront Project, and will have a representative from our group present at these meetings. We are still committed to fighting for a coordinated conservation effort in The Bluffs! That means preserving and saving habitat for our endangered, threatened, and special concern species. We still feel that the current plans for the waterfront fall short of these conservation goals. There will be more news to come!

If you've never visited East Point, the eastern-most part of The Scarborough Bluffs and where the Bluffs begin, it's worth the trip to explore one of the last remaining natural shorelines in the GTA. One of the proposals in the Scarborough Waterfront Project is to harden this shoreline with revetment walls and armour stone. We think it's lovely just the way it is! People need a place to go to that still looks and feels like nature, and East Point is a critical habitat for many endangered and threatened plant and animals species. Let's share the land with them!
