🇭🇺 Ma 20 éve hunyt el Faludy György, a 20. századi magyar irodalom egyik legszínesebb alakja.
Az 1956-os forradalom után emigráló költő a hatvanas évek végén telepedett le Torontóban, ahol több mint két évtizeden át élt és alkotott. A torontói magyar közösség és a kanadai kulturális élet meghatározó alakjává vált, otthona pedig a magyar emigráció fontos szellemi találkozóhelye lett. 1976-ban kanadai állampolgárságot szerzett.
Toronto máig őrzi emlékét: egykori otthonával szemben található a George Faludy Place, ahol emléktábla is tiszteleg előtte.
Faludy 1989-ben visszatért Magyarországra, de Kanada és Toronto örökre fontos része maradt életének és munkásságának.
Egy magyar költő, akinek emlékét Toronto is magáénak vallja.

🇨🇦 Today marks 20 years since the passing of George Faludy, one of the most colourful figures of 20th-century Hungarian literature.
Following the 1956 Revolution, the poet emigrated and settled in Toronto in the late 1960s, where he lived and worked for more than two decades. He became an important figure in Toronto’s Hungarian community and Canada’s cultural life, while his home served as an important intellectual meeting place for the Hungarian émigré community. In 1976, he became a Canadian citizen.
Toronto continues to honour his memory: across from his former home stands George Faludy Place, with a commemorative plaque dedicated to the Hungarian poet.
Faludy returned to Hungary in 1989, but Canada and Toronto remained an enduring part of his life and legacy.

🇭🇺A torontói Magyar Háztól a Budapest Parkig gurultunk vasárnap délelőtt!
A párás idő ellenére egy igazán jó hangulatú, sportos délelőttöt tölthettünk együtt a torontói magyar közösséggel! A Don folyó és a tópart mentén vezető gyönyörű útvonalon számos ponton csatlakoztak hozzánk újabb bringások. Köszönjük mindenkinek, aki velünk tartott, különösen a Magyar Ház igazgatósági tagjainak, Bán Ildikónak és Varga Istvánnak!

🇨🇦We rolled from the Hungarian House of Toronto to Budapest Park on Sunday morning!
Despite the muggy weather, we spent a fun, sporty morning together with the members of the Hungarian community of Toronto! Along the beautiful route along the Don River and the lakeshore, new cyclists joined us at multiple points. Thank you to everyone who rode along with us, especially to the board members of the Hungarian House, Ildikó Bán and István Varga!

A mai napon vette kezdetét a Red Bull Four 2 Score torontói globális kispályás futball tornája, melyen a Szoboszlai Dominik barátaiból álló Dominators csapat képviseli hazánkat - Kertész Attila csapatkapitány mellett Büki Baltazár, Horváth Norbert, Horváth Szabolcs és Bognár Bence. A Torontói Főkonzulátus részéről Németh Dániel külgazdasági attasé és Juhász Nadin titkárságvezető is a helyszínen szurkol a magyar csapatnak.

🇭🇺1526. augusztus 29-i mohácsi csata ötszázadik évfordulójára emlékezünk holnap. Pontosan 500 évvel ezelőtt az Oszmán Birodalom sokszoros túlerejével szemben a Magyar Királyság képtelen volt megbirkózni, Szulejmán szultán seregei előtt pedig megnyílt az út Közép-Európa meghódítása felé. Mohács azonban nemcsak a vereség története, hanem annak a bizonyítéka, hogy a magyarság történelmének egyik legsúlyosabb törése után is képes volt megmaradni. A Mohács 500 emlékévben a veszteség mellett a helytállásra, a túlélésre és az újrakezdés erejére is emlékezünk. Az emlékévet nyitó holnapi ünnepi rendezvények - magyar idő szerint - reggel 10 órakor kezdődnek és a közmédia élőben közvetíti az M5 csatornán.

🇨🇦Tomorrow marks the 500th anniversary of the Battle of Mohács (August 29, 1526). Exactly five centuries ago, the Kingdom of Hungary was unable to withstand the vastly superior forces of the Ottoman Empire, and the path to the conquest of Central Europe lay open before Sultan Suleiman’s armies. Yet, the story of Mohács is not merely one of defeat; it is also proof that the Hungarian nation was able to endure even after one of the most devastating ruptures in its history. During the "Mohács 500" commemorative year, we honor not only the loss but also the steadfastness, survival, and the strength to make a fresh start. The commemorative events launching tomorrow begin at 10:00 a.m. (Hungarian time) and will be broadcast live by public media on the M5 channel.

🇭🇺 Magyarország új – az Országgyűlés által megválasztott – köztársasági elnöke, dr. Baka András augusztus 19-én hivatalba lépett.

Dr. Baka András a Magyar Tudományos Akadémián folytatott alkotmányjogi kutatásokat, majd a strasbourgi Emberi Jogok Európai Bírósága első magyar bírájává választották. Ezt követően a Fővárosi Ítélőtábla elnöki bírája, majd a Legfelsőbb Bíróság elnökeként, végül pedig a Kúria tanácsvezető bírájaként tevékenykedett.

🇨🇦 Dr. András Baka, new president of Hungary, elected by the National Assembly, took office on August 19.

Dr. András Baka previously conducted research on constitutional law at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and was subsequently elected as the first Hungarian judge ot he European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg. He subsequently served as presiding judge of the Budapest Court of Appeals, then as president of the Supreme Court, and finally as chief justice of the Supreme Court.

🇭🇺 Herendi Porcelán a hétvégi Honda Indy Markham trófeája!

Különleges megtiszteltetés a magyar iparművészet számára, hogy a Honda Indy Markham futam győztesei idén a 200 éves Herendi Porcelán trófeáit vehetik át.

A Herend trófeákat a mai napon egy zártkörű sajtórendezvényen mutatták be, amelyen többek között Markham polgármestere, Frank Scarpitti, valamint az ontáriói kormány képviseletében Nathalie Pierre is jelen volt. A Herend Canada Official képviseletében Rubin Rita mondott köszöntőbeszédet, a Főkonzulátus részéről pedig Németh Dániel külgazdasági attasé vett részt.

Gratulálunk a Herendnek, és bízunk benne, hogy még sok hasonló, nemzetközi együttműködésben és sikerben lesz részük!

🇨🇦Herend Porcelain to be the Trophy for This Weekend’s Honda Indy Markham!

It is a great honour for Hungarian applied arts that the winners of the Honda Indy Markham race will receive trophies made from 200-year-old Herend Porcelain this year.

The Herend trophies were unveiled today at a private press event attended, among others, by Frank Scarpitti, Mayor of Markham, and Nathalie Pierre, representing the Government of Ontario. Rubin Rita, representing Herend Canada, delivered welcoming remarks, while Daniel Németh Economic and Trade Attaché, attended on behalf of the Consulate General of Hungary.

Congratulations to Herend, and we look forward to seeing them take part in many more successful international collaborations in the future!
