Society of Sharing: Inner-City Volunteers Reducing social isolation for seniors and adults with disabilities since 1981
(5)

The objective of our programming is to:
- Reduce social isolation and promote social connections so that clients remain connected in their communities and are able to live independently in their own homes;
- Ensure a healthy life by providing medical escorts to appointments and shopping escorts for food;
- Inform and refer clients to other community services as needed, such as transportation, hous

ing and the location of free influenza clinics;
- Improve the well-being of house-bound clients by offering emotional support and providing practical assistance with our friendly visiting and escort program;
- Stimulate intellectual capacity by reading to clients, discussing current events and in some special cases teaching computer skills as part of the friendly visiting program;
- Provide short-term and occasional caregiver relief for clients with less complex medical needs;
- Reassure client health and safety by providing medication reminders and telephone security calls.
