Chess in the Library

Chess in the Library A non-profit, student-led organization which aims to provide accessible chess across Canada. Chess in the Library is a student volunteer-run program.

As its name implies, the program is about playing chess in public libraries, where the environments are quiet and surrounded by books of knowledge. Members gather each week to play causal chess, blitz, and CFC rated games. Players of all ages and strengths are welcome to come and play, chess sets are provided.

The Giuoco Piano Game is a branch of the Italian Game, with the continuation of Bishop to C5. Translated in italian as the "quiet game", it allows intermediate players to continue with a variety of lines without have massive weaknesses. Hello chess enthusiasts! The children's program at Milliken Mills will be starting up again on September 8th. This program will run every 2nd and 4th Sunday of every month from 1:30 PM to 3:15 PM. However on the first session (Sept 8, it will run from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM.

Ryan is a Grade 12 student at the Crestwood Preparatory College. He is a competitive chess player with a ~2300 rating on chess.com and a ~2000 CFC rating. Beyond chess, Ryan is also fond of mathematics and badminton. As a member of the CITL team, he is excited to share his enthusiasm for chess and help promote chess education within the community.
