Moeen Centre is mandated to support young adults with disabilities in areas that the system cannot. In Ontario, children are supported in education until the age of 21 through the public schooling system. After this age, there is limited support for people with disabilities. Often, it falls onto private organizations to provide programming for these young adults. There are only a handful of non-pr

ofit organizations that support young adults with disabilities. Therefore, Moeen Centre is committed to playing an active role in bridging the gap for these young adults. At present, we provide a day program for young adults with physical and developmental challenges. Our day program is supported by our experienced staff and volunteers who teach a customized curriculum to our students. At Moeen Centre, we teach life skills, mathematics, language, music, and much more. This past year, we have added a fitness class for individuals with disabilities and a social program for seniors in the GTA. We are working hard to continue improving all of our programs. Inclusivity creates opportunities for everyone to reach their full potential.

That has been the heart of the Moeen Centre since 1996.

Our organization was founded in memory of Moeen Alam, a physically disabled and developmentally challenged young man who tragically lost his life at the age of 18 in a house fire. In the face of personal loss, his mother, Qaisar Alam, transformed grief into purpose by creating a place where young adults with disabilities can find opportunities, support and a sense of belonging.

Today, our mission remains the same: to remove barriers in community participation while promoting greater independence, reducing isolation and helping young adults with physical and developmental disabilities reach their full potential.

For nearly 30 years, Moeen Centre has been committed to offering carefully thought-out, well-designed programs that improve reading, writing, math, fitness and the arts. While also focusing on everyday life skills, such as cleaning tables, folding clothes, watering plants, taking out the garbage, or even placing out lunch placements that support greater independence. We continue to see these accomplishments every day!

We are grateful to everyone who has been part of our journey over the past three decades, including participants, families, volunteers, donors, community partners, and supporters such as Enbridge Gas. Your support continues to help us expand our welcoming community where disabled young adults can thrive.

Together, we’re building a future where inclusion isn't just an aspiration, it's a reality.
