Head Eesti lipu päeva!

A piece of ’s history came home today.

On Estonian Flag Day, the Estonian National Museum received the flag of the President of the Republic – a relic saved from Kadriorg Palace in September 1944 as Soviet forces closed in on Tallinn.

Then 14-year-old Estonian Scout Eugen Vilder helped take the flag down. It was cut in two: one half disappeared, the other travelled with Vilder as he fled Estonia with his mother and younger sister, first to Germany, then to Australia.

For more than 80 years, it remained hidden in exile.

Today, it is back in Estonia.

More than a flag, it is a witness to courage, loss, exile and the continuity of a country that occupation could not erase.

The relic was presented to the museum by the Estonian foreign minister, Margus Tsahkna.

🎻🪭 Next Month: at Wavelength @ St. Anne’s Block Party!

Maris Pihlap is a singer, producer, and DJ whose path into music began with folk music as a violinist, but has since evolved into into electronic production, songwriting, and DJ culture. Her recent work explores Estonian pop through a subtle amapiano lens, reflected in an EP featuring artists like Reket, villemdrillem, Jüri Pootsmann, and EiK — one of the first local releases influenced by the genre. Earlier solo albums, released under TIKS rekords, received nominations at the Estonian Music Awards and helped shape her voice as a producer and artist.

Alongside her own projects, Maris works behind the scenes as a producer, backing vocalist, and collaborator for other artists. In recent years, she’s also built a presence in Tallinn’s nightlife, shaping atmospheres as a DJ with style and precision.
