🍎📚 Welcome Back Students!

Today marks the start of a new school year filled with opportunities to learn, grow, and discover new possibilities. At CCAS, we know that school is more than a place to learn. It's where children and youth build friendships, gain confidence, and develop the skills they need to thrive.

As classrooms reopen and hallways fill with energy, we're grateful for the families, caregivers, educators, and community partners who help young people succeed every day. Together, we're creating opportunities for children and youth to feel supported, empowered, and ready to learn.

Wishing all students a positive first day and a school year filled with growth, success, and possibility.

On International Day of Charity, we celebrate the power of generosity to create hope, stability, and opportunity for children, youth, and families. 💙💛

Today, we are proud to recognize the Catholic Children’s Aid Foundation (CCAF), the registered charitable partner of the Catholic Children’s Aid Society of Toronto (CCAS). Through the generosity of donors, CCAF helps ensure that children, youth, and families receive support beyond what government funding can provide.

Over the past year, CCAF invested more than $1.9 million in programs and supports, helping 2,046 children, youth, and families overcome barriers and access opportunities. From emergency assistance and housing supports to scholarships, counselling, and life-enriching experiences, the Foundation helps meet critical needs while creating pathways to brighter futures.

Today, we extend our gratitude to CCAF's donors, partners, and supporters whose generosity makes this impact possible. Together, we are helping children and youth not only stay safe, but also grow, succeed, and thrive.

This month in our Focus on Foster Care series, we're going back to basics. 💙💛

As September brings a season of learning and fresh starts, we're exploring a simple but important question: What do foster caregivers do?

Foster caregivers provide children and youth with a safe, nurturing home when they are unable to remain with their families. They offer stability, guidance, and support while helping children maintain important family, cultural, and community connections. Working alongside CCAS staff and families, foster caregivers play a vital role in helping children thrive and achieve the best possible outcomes for their future.

As we get ready to head into the long weekend and begin to wrap up another summer, we'd like to thank our community partners for joining us in Safe Kids, Strong Communities, a citywide campaign focused on helping prevent child injuries and keeping children safe.

Throughout the summer, we've shared reminders about balcony and window safety, hot car risks, and the simple actions families can take to help prevent tragedies. These conversations matter because many of these injuries can happen in seconds — but they are often preventable through awareness, supervision, and everyday safety habits.

While summer may be coming to a close, warm weather can continue into the fall, and safety remains important year-round. That's why our campaign resources will continue to be available for families, caregivers, service providers, and community members looking for trusted information and support.

Explore our resource hub for:
✅ Home safety checklists
✅ Balcony and window safety information
✅ Heat and hot weather resources
✅ Cooling spaces and community supports
✅ Child injury prevention resources from trusted organizations, including The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) and the City of Toronto

Thank you to everyone who helped share these important messages throughout the summer. Together, we're helping create safer homes, stronger communities, and a safer city for children and youth.

Every photo tells a story.

This World Photography Day, we encourage families to capture the everyday moments that make childhood special, from playtime and learning to laughter and family adventures. These memories help tell the unique stories that shape our lives and communities.

Screens are designed to keep bugs out, not to keep children in. These screens can easily give way under a child's weight, making dedicated safety devices essential.

Protect your little ones this summer by checking your windows today. Small, intentional actions save lives.

Swipe through to check your home safety list:
1️⃣ Screens aren't guards: Window screens alone may not stop falls. Install dedicated window guards.
2️⃣ Clear the path: Keep furniture and climbable objects away from windows and balcony railings.
3️⃣ Actively supervise: Stay nearby and watch children closely whenever windows and balcony doors are open.

Annual Report Spotlight: Addressing Intimate Partner Violence Through Prevention and Partnership

As part of our 2025–2026 Annual Report, we're highlighting an important issue affecting children, youth, and families across our communities: Intimate Partner Violence (IPV).

Our first graphic explores the growing impact of IPV across Ontario and Toronto, where rates continue to rise and children are exposed to violence in their homes. The data underscores the urgent need for meaningful action, particularly as child welfare, community, and social service sectors work together to support safer outcomes for families.

The second one highlights CCAS's Male Engagement Worker (MEW) Program, which takes a proactive approach by working directly with fathers and male caregivers to promote accountability, and safer outcomes for children and families. Funded by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services (MCCSS), the program is delivered in partnership with Catholic Family Services and the Children's Aid Society of Toronto.

By focusing on mentorship, emotional support and practical guidance, the MEW Program helps address a critical gap in the response to IPV while supporting the safety and well-being of children and families.

🌟 International Youth Day | August 12, 2026 🌟

Today, we celebrate International Youth Day and this year’s theme, “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations.” While young people around the world experience different realities, they share many of the same hopes for their future: quality education, meaningful opportunities, mental health supports, dignity, and a safe, sustainable world.

As a child and youth-focused organization, we have the privilege of supporting children and youth as they grow, learn, and discover their potential. Every day, we see the resilience, creativity, and leadership of young people, and we are inspired by their ability to overcome challenges and create positive change in their communities. On International Youth Day, we celebrate their achievements, and reaffirm our commitment to helping every young person thrive.
