THE PHILIPPINE CONSULATE GENERAL SUPPORTS PICPA CONFERENCE IN TORONTO

28 May 2026, Toronto - Consul General Kristine Leilani R. Salle delivered the Keynote Address on behalf of Philippine Ambassador to Canada Jose Victor Chan-Gonzaga for the 20th International Conference of the Philippine Institute of Certified Accountants (PICPA)-Metro Manila Region held at the Novotel Toronto Center Hotel.

Consul General Salle also gave a presentation to the conference participants on Philippines-Canada relations, the work of the Consulate General in Toronto, and the challenges faced by the Filipino diaspora, particularly Filipino professionals. She underscored the vital contributions of Filipinos to Canada’s economic, business, and public sectors—not only through technical excellence, but through the community’s integrity, resilience, and leadership.

The two-day conference is intended to update Filipino accountants on global accounting trends, emerging technologies and regulatory changes. Topics of the conference included artificial intelligence in accounting and audit, cybersecurity and data privacy and global mobility.

Toronto was chosen as PICPA’s venue for their international conference this year. END

The Philippine Consulate General in Toronto joins the nation in observing National Flag Days from 28 May to 12 June 2026.

The choice of 28 May as the beginning of National Flag Days commemorates the historic Battle of Alapan in Imus, Cavite, where Filipino revolutionary forces under General Emilio Aguinaldo achieved a decisive victory against Spanish troops. Following this triumph, Aguinaldo proudly unfurled the Philippine flag for the first time before the Filipino people — a powerful symbol of the nation’s struggle for freedom.

The flag, sewn in Hong Kong by Marcela Mariño de Agoncillo, features the red and blue fields, a white triangle, and a radiant sun with eight rays alongside three stars – elements that continue to define the Philippine national flag today.

As we honor the Philippine flag, may it continue to remind us of the sacrifice of those who fought for our freedom, the values that unite us as a people, and our shared duty to uphold the dignity and sovereignty of the Republic.

Let us proudly display the Philippine flag with respect and patriotism. 🇵🇭
