🔴 11:20 am - we will be gathering to the west of the Royal York Hotel, which is across the street from Union Station on Front Street. There will be a sound truck and stage with music playing.

Our protest is fast approaching! Ahead of the giant march and rally taking place in Toronto tomorrow, Thursday May 28, here are the details you need to know.

WHERE TO MEET AT UNION STATION IN TORONTO
When you arrive at Union Station in Toronto, walk out to Front Street and look to the left side (i.e. west) of the Royal York Hotel, which is across the street from Union Station on Front Street. There will be a sound truck and stage there and they will be playing music starting at 11:20 am. Please begin gathering at that time.

Please remember to bring sunscreen, water and anything else you need to stay safe tomorrow. Also, please bring signs and get ready to make some noise!

RUNDOWN OF THE DAY'S EVENTS

Instead of using it to restore and improve our public hospitals that have been pushed into deficits, the Ford government is redirecting more than a billion dollars per year in public funding to for-profit corporations to privatize our health care.

Ontario hospitals & long-term care homes pay for-profit staffing agencies nearly $1 billion per year for nurses & PSWs. The Ford government announced nearly $3OO million for 61 new private surgical & diagnostic clinics on top of previous $27 million annual funding increases.

Patients are being charged thousands of dollars in private cataract clinics in Hamilton, rendering Ford's promises that this would never happen as lies.

At the same time, Hamilton's local public hospitals have been pushed into deficit. Hamilton Health Sciences is being forced to cut $40 million from its budget -- reducing staff and services -- and St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton has cut 62 staff positions in order to reduce its deficit. This is on top of years of cuts and curtailments, as you know, in hospitals that are already full to overflowing.

These are the local impacts so far of the Ford government's aggressive plan to defund, dismantle, and privatize our public hospitals. At the same time, they are pouring money into privatizing hospital surgeries, diagnostics and other services.

At the same time, Kingston Health Sciences was pushed into deficit. Patients are being put in hallways, classrooms, the gym, and storage rooms because the hospital doesn't have enough capacity.

If we let Doug Ford privatize our health care, this is what our hospital bills would look like. These are real prices at private clinics in Ontario, Quebec, and B.C. In Ontario, private clinics already routinely charge seniors thousands of dollars for their eye surgeries. It is illegal to charge patients for these tests and procedures.

TRAINS ARE FILLING UP FAST: get on board to stop Doug Ford’s hospital privatization train wreck on Thurs, May 28. We will gather outside Union Station in Toronto for a rally at 12 pm noon then march up to Queen’s Park for a giant protest. We have bought entire train cars and blocks of tickets to bring in Ontarians from all over the province on VIA and GO trains.

For those in Toronto: please come out to the rally and march!

TRAIN DEPARTURE & RETURN TIMES
At each place, we will gather at the VIA/GO station and travel together. On the morning of May 28, please arrive at your train station at least 45 minutes before departure to meet your train captain at a designated area. Please don’t be late because you will miss being given your ticket and getting on your train.

The trains will go to Union Station in downtown Toronto. For people arriving at Union Station early, there will be a comfy room to sit in once you disembark. More info will be provided once you reserve your seat.

After the protest at Queen's Park, we will return to Union Station and get on trains back to the same town you came from.

For those from Sudbury: the train only runs twice a week, as you know. We invite you to carpool or travel down and jump on the GO Train with us in Barrie.
