It’s time for elections!!!🥳🪩🫶

We are currently accepting nominations to join their executive team for the 2023-2024 year!

The following positions are open for nominations (scroll for position details):
- President
- Vice President
- Secretary
- Treasurer
- Operations Coordinator
- Communications Director

To run in the elections, you must be a registered University of Toronto undergraduate student. You must submit your nomination by Monday, March 27, 2023 at 11:59 PM EST. For more information about the elections, visit: https://www.uoftcanpol.com/exec-elections-2023.

To nominate yourself for a position, you must complete the Google Form in our bio. You will also be required to deliver a 1-2 minute speech explaining why you are best suited for your desired position at our Annual General Meeting on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at 6:00 PM at the Sussex Clubhouse room 409 (21 Sussex ave).

That’s a wrap… a little delayed! 🥳 Our 2023 First Ministers Conference Simulation is officially over. It was so much fun getting to know everyone and debating Canadian politics resolutions with you all! A highlight of the simulation was the Premier of Manitoba being escorted back to his seat at (fake) sword point by Justin Trudeau.

This was the first FMCS back in-person since the pandemic, so thank you so much to all the participants for coming out! The enthusiasm everyone brought was incredible and we hope to see everyone again next year! ☺️🔥🇨🇦

Also, a note from Madeleine, Alexandra and Ashafina: We are all graduating this year and this is our final time running the FMCS! We’re so thankful to have been apart of CanPol and getting to meet everyone at the FMCS over the years! We hope to see everyone at our upcoming events and are excited to see how the FMCS and CanPol will grow next year ☺️🫶🏻

Meet the 2022-2023 CanPol team!

This year, Milo (he/him) is a Junior Executive! Milo is a first year student looking to pursue a double major in Economics and International Relations. Throughout high school, Milo was involved in his school’s Model UN club, where he served on the executive staff his senior year. Milo’s always been involved and interested in politics, including working for a local congressional campaign this past summer, so when he heard about the Canadian Politics Club, he couldn’t wait to join. Now serving as your Junior Executive, he can’t wait to plan fun events and get as immersed as possible in Canadian Politics. In his free time he likes to hang out with friends and listen to music.

This year, Teaghen (she/her) is a Junior Executive! Teaghen is a first-year student in the Rotman Commerce Program, hoping to specialize in management and further her education in international business and relations. Teaghen has a growing interest in the Canadian government's policies surrounding globalization and environmental sustainability. As she continues to explore the opportunities available at UofT, she would like to become a more active member of the environmental and political activism groups within the community. In her free time, Teaghen enjoys spending time outdoors with her friends and family all year round and watching a good movie!

Meet the 2022-2023 CanPol team!

This year, our Communications Director is Rameen (she/her)! Rameen is a second-year student specializing in Political Science. She became interested in politics when she was in middle school and started volunteering in her local riding back in Calgary. Rameen is most passionate about refugee advocacy, indigenous reconciliation, and climate. In addition to canpol, Rameen is involved with Model United Nations at UofT and the Liberal Party of Canada.

Meet the 2022-2023 CanPol team!

This year, our Secretary is Ashafina (she/her)! Ashafina is a fourth-year student double majoring in Criminology and Political Science. She first became interested in politics in high school when she participated in Model United Nations and was able to expand her knowledge on worldly political issues. Ashafina is also involved in activism on campus by attending climate strikes and Pipeline Protests. Her main interests are Indigenous rights and decolonization, gendered violence policies, and issues regarding the criminal justice system.

This year, our Treasurer is Fadeel (he/him)! A message from Fadeel: “I am a third-year student in the Rotman Commerce stream. I have always loved politics and learning about our politcial systems and look forward to sharing that passion with everyone this year. Beyond school, I am an academic person. I am also a huge fan of anime and many movies especially detective movies but, my favorite ever is FROZEN 2. I also am a collector and collect just about anything. I am looking super forward to creating many wonderful things that I hope you all enjoy this year.”

Meet the 2022-2023 CanPol team!!

This year, our Vice President is Alexandra (she/her)! Alexandra is a fourth-year student double majoring in Environmental Studies and Philosophy with a minor in Political Science and a Sustainability Certificate. She first became interested in politics after joining the EarthLink club at her high school, which sparked her interest in environmental policy and later expanded to all areas of politics in Canada. Alexandra is most passionate about environmental politics concerning climate change and plastic pollution, as well as humanitarian issues in Canada. She is also interested in international relations and global environmental economics. She is also the Upper Year Representative for the Environmental Students' Union and is involved with environmental and Indigenous rights activism on campus.

Meet the 2022-2023 CanPol team!

This year, our President is Madeleine Frechette (she/her)! Madeleine is a fourth-year student completing a double major in Environmental Studies and Criminology & Sociolegal Studies, a minor in Indigenous Studies, the Certificate in Sustainability, and a Language Citation in Kanien’kéha (Mohawk). She first became interested in politics through her involvement with the Ontario Clean Air Alliance, an environmental conservation organization working to create a green energy future for Ontario. Madeleine is most passionate about land stewardship, environmental conservation, Indigenous decolonization, and food sovereignty in Canada. She brings her organizational and communication skills to her role as President, along with her experience being CanPol’s former Secretary. Madeleine is also the Co-President of the University of Toronto Environmental Students’ Union and a Senior Mentor for the Margaret MacMillan Trinity One program.
