What started as a unique retirement gift has grown into an opportunity for aspiring entrepreneurs to build businesses and create brighter futures.

YSM’s Entrepreneurship Program provides workshops, coaching, networking and micro-grants to help community members turn their ideas into sustainable businesses.

In July, eight entrepreneurs received $31,000 between them in micro-grants, supporting businesses ranging from restaurants and osteopathy to tech support and skincare.

For one entrepreneur, a grant meant a second stove for her small restaurant — a simple investment that will help her serve more customers and grow her business.

We’re grateful to the volunteers, donors and partners helping entrepreneurs build opportunities for themselves, their families and their communities. ❤️

Who will be the next generation of leaders?

YSM's President & CEO Angie Peters is taking part in CEOx1Day North America --a leadership program that connects undergraduate students with CEOs for a day of mentorship and learning.

Now, we’re looking for an undergraduate student who wants to spend a day with Angie, getting a behind-the-scenes look at leadership, decision-making and what it takes to lead an organization.

The CEOx1Day experience will take place in March 2027, but applications are open now.

Pets are family, and everyone deserves access to the care and support they need. 💙

We’re proud to partner with Community Veterinary Outreach and other community organizations to help people experiencing poverty care for their beloved pets. Thank you to everyone who helped make this One Health Clinic possible, supporting 39 people and 49 pets in our community! 🐾

YSM's Cornerstone Family Services offer 12 free sessions of ongoing counselling to help you navigate life’s challenges. Whether you’re looking for individual, group, couples or family therapy, our team is here to listen and guide you toward healing and hope.

In-person sessions are available Monday to Friday, from 9am–5pm. Online options are also available.

Meet Hassy from YSM's Food Bank. For Hassy, the Food Bank is about more than providing groceries. It's about building relationships, restoring dignity and creating a sense of belonging.

A meaningful moment that has stayed with Hassy involved a community member who had once relied on the Food Bank returning to donate food items for others.

"That act reminded me you don't have to have a lot to make a difference."

At Yonge Street Mission, we see every day how kindness, generosity and community can come full circle.

When Paul* came to Yonge Street Mission, he was struggling. He hadn’t seen his children in months and was carrying deep feelings of grief, anger and helplessness.

With support from YSM, Paul connected with a Care Manager who walked alongside him, helping him work through his emotions, find a place of his own and take steps toward reconnecting with his children.

Today, Paul feels hopeful, grounded and connected. Sometimes, having someone who believes in you and walks beside you can make all the difference.

Thank you to our donors and supporters for helping make stories like Paul’s possible and empowering struggling neighbours to move from surviving to thriving.

Join the Sumac Supper Club!

The Sumac Supper Club is a community dinner that brings together youth ages 20-29 for a nutritious, freshly prepared meal in a warm, supportive environment. The program provides an opportunity to share a meal, connect with one another, and build relationships with the broader Sumac Community Food Centre

The first supper club is Thursday, Oct 22, from 6- 8 PM, at the Sumac Community Food Centre (340 Gerrard St E). Doors open at 5:30 PM, and dinner is served at 6:30 PM. This program is registration-based, and spots are limited, so please sign up to reserve a spot!

Poverty is global. But it’s also right here in Toronto.

On the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, we’re reminded of the scale of the challenge: an estimated 826 million people around the world are living in extreme poverty, while more than 2.8 billion people face some form of inadequate housing.

But poverty isn’t only a global issue. Here in Toronto, too many of our neighbours are struggling to afford food, find stable housing, pay the bills or build a future.

At YSM, we believe ending chronic poverty takes more than meeting immediate needs. It means walking alongside people and communities, addressing the barriers that keep people in poverty and creating pathways to help community members move from surviving to thriving.

Because ending poverty starts with all of us and it starts right here at home.
