After experiencing a life-changing accident that caused him brain damage, Elton faced ongoing challenges in finding and keeping employment. But through YSM’s Opportunities Fund employment program, which combines employment skills training with one-on-one mental health support, Elton found the encouragement, support and opportunity he needed to move forward.

With the support of a local employer partner, Elton gained valuable work experience and has become a valued member of their team. Most importantly, we’ve watched his confidence grow every step along the way.

Stories like Elton’s are possible because of caring supporters and community partners who believe in second chances and brighter futures. In 2025, 583 participants completed one or more YSM employment programs.

Homelessness impacts more than where someone sleeps. It impacts their physical and mental health too.

At YSM’s Richard and Lorelei Jenkins & Family Health and Dental Centre, vulnerable youth can access free medical, dental and mental health support from compassionate professionals and volunteers.

From counselling and addiction support, to family and art therapy, we’re helping youth, adults and families build resilience and move toward healing.

Quinn often felt that healing was out of reach, starting and stopping counselling several times because they weren’t sure it could help. Each time, their YSM counsellor responded with patience and care, offering encouragement and reminding Quinn they weren’t alone.

After months of support, Quinn decided they needed to get sober. That same day, their counsellor helped them access a detox program while continuing to support them through treatment and aftercare, including a Trauma & Transformation group at YSM.

Today, Quinn is moving forward one day at a time.

Because of you, such stabilizing care is possible. In 2025, we provided:

🩺 4,280 free health care appointments for vulnerable youth
🫶 2,035 hours of one-on-one mental health therapy
🫶 952 hours of group mental health support

Today, we're introducing Stella, our Community Development Specialist, who grew up immersed in Chinese culture and speaks both Taiwanese and Mandarin. Stella reflects on how simple but powerful instincts — sharing food and staying curious about new experiences — have been at the heart of how she connects with the people around her. She also speaks to the importance of respect for elders, a value deeply embedded in Taiwanese culture that continues to shape how she shows up at YSM.

Access to healthcare matters. This June, we’re here to support our community with free health and dental services at our Evergreen Health Centre.

Please note:
• Our Health Centre will be closed on Wednesday, June 3 and Friday, June 12
• The last day for gynecology services before the summer pause will be Wednesday, June 10
• Gynecology services will be paused during July and August
• Patients must first book a medical appointment for an assessment before being referred to the gynecologist

YSM is looking for a Summer Camp Coordinator to join our Family Education team this summer!

In this leadership role, you’ll help coordinate and facilitate summer camp programming for children and youth living in Regent Park, St. James Town, Moss Park and Cabbagetown including field trips, sports, arts, tech projects and more.

This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program and applicants must be:

• Between 15–30 years old
• A Canadian citizen, permanent resident or protected person
• Legally entitled to work in Canada, and has a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN)
