Yesterday marked a fantastic milestone in Corktown as we celebrated PetNation’s one-year anniversary with the official unveiling of their new community mural.

This event was about more than just an anniversary; it brought the community together for an open house featuring family activities, clinic tours, and a panel discussion in support of vital organizations like MUTTS Dog Rescue and Home at Last Cat Rescue, alongside Toronto Dog Moms.
Speaking at the event was deeply personal for me. As an animal lover, a former pet store owner, and someone who has experienced the profound joy and loss of having dogs in my life, I know firsthand how central pets are to our well-being and our neighborhoods.

I want to congratulate the artist, Taegan Stanley on a magnificent piece of public art that perfectly captures the spirit of the community. Thank you to for your investment in Corktown over the past year and for hosting such a meaningful celebration!

Block party season is officially here, and you know I am always down for a good neighbourhood celebration!

I had the absolute best time yesterday dropping by Canada’s National Ballet School for their 5th annual Block Party. Now, anyone who knows me knows that I have absolutely no rhythm myself, but I am always in complete awe of how gracefully and effortlessly these kids move. Watching the youth and students hit the stage for the pop-up performances and live rehearsals was truly mesmerizing—the talent in our community is unmatched!

This festival-style event completely transformed our community space with diverse dance workshops, great music, food, and family-friendly activities. It perfectly exemplifies NBS’s mission to share the transformative power of dance with everyone.

A huge thank you to the entire team at for hosting such a joyful day of connection, and for constantly inspiring the next generation of dancers. I might not have the moves, but I will always be your biggest cheerleader!

From transforming our public realm to securing crucial support for vulnerable residents, the latest City Council session brought several milestone achievements for Ward 13 and Toronto Centre.

In this recap video, I’m breaking down the major motions we passed, including:
✅ Approving the seasonal pedestrianization and public realm enhancements for Church Street.
✅ Releasing $100k for the historic expansion and design of Allan Gardens.
✅ Bolstering Toronto’s housing supply with over 7,700 tracked new home starts.
✅ Enhancing bike lane safety regulations by addressing high-speed e-bike and moped usage.
✅ Securing federal funding for 100 youth employment placements and expanding our emergency summer A/C unit program for low-income seniors and tenants.

Eid al-Adha is a good reminder for all of us about the values of devotion, compassion, and sacrifice that bind us together.

It was a deeply moving and grounding experience for me to join Toronto-Centre’S Muslim community this morning for the prayers of Eid al-Adha.

Thank you to everyone who welcomed me with such open hearts and warm hospitality. As you gather with your families, friends, and neighbours to share in the spirit of charity and generosity, may you find peace, happiness, and renewed strength.

To all the families across Ward 13 and all of Toronto-Centre who observe, I wish you a joyous and reflective Eid Mubarak!

This morning, it was a privilege to join my colleagues to help raise the Progress Pride Flag at Mel Lastman Square and officially kick off our city-wide Pride celebrations!

Our brilliant Emcee Sucka Queen kept the energy high, and we were treated to a beautiful, moving performance by Ifetayo Alabi. It was wonderful to join community members and my colleagues—Deputy Mayor Mike Colle, Councillors James Pasternak, Shelley Carroll, Lily Cheng, and TDSB Chair Rachel Chernos Lin—to mark this moment at the North York Civic Centre. A truly special highlight of the morning was a presentation recognizing Reverend Brad Inglis of Lansing United Church for his incredible, ongoing dedication and support to the community.

Gathering at Mel Lastman Square holds a deep, personal significance for our city’s q***r history. Back in 1990, it was former Mayor Mel Lastman who officially proclaimed Pride Day in the former City of North York—a vital, courageous step forward for 2SLGBTQ+ visibility outside of the downtown core at a time when municipal recognition was heavily hard-fought.

As a q***r leader and the Chair of the City’s 2SLGBTQ+ Advisory Committee, I know firsthand that representation matters in every single corner of Toronto. Raising this flag in North York this morning is a powerful reminder that Pride belongs to all of us, across every single borough. Let’s keep working together to build a safer, more inclusive city for everyone. Happy Pride season!

Our Toronto Centre Talks series is back for our second event of the year! Every year, our office hosts these educational panels to bring together public, private, and nonprofit voices to explore the big ideas shaping our communities.

Following the success of our first talk on Cultural Districts, join me on Wednesday, June 10 at the St. Lawrence Community Recreation Centre for our next panel: Placemaking and Public Realms.

We’ll be bringing together community leaders, City staff, and urban planners to celebrate Toronto’s growing public spaces, while diving into the real challenges of activating them and keeping them vibrant for residents.
