It's normal for students (as well as their parents and caregivers) to be a mix of excited and nervous during the transition back to school. Every August, we recognize Emancipation Month, the struggle for human rights, and the rich contributions made by Peoples of African descent. We acknowledge an abhorrent period in our shared history and our ongoing commitment to eliminate discrimination of all kinds.

Here in Toronto, many events throughout the month feature live music, spoken word & dance performances, food, art, and much more celebrating the resilience, contributions and achievements of Black communities in the City.

June 21, 2026 is the 30th anniversary of National Indigenous Peoples Day. It's a time to recognize the traditions, cultures, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit & Métis. Today, we honour and celebrate Indigenous Peoples for their valuable and vibrant impact on our communities and champion their inclusion in conversations around mental health and well-being.

New this year, National Indigenous Peoples Day is illustrated by three symbols: a feather, a narwhal, and a fiddle. Each represents the distinct cultures of First Nations, Inuit, & Métis communities, brought together in a circular flowing composition to reflect the connection between the groups.
