One of Seth's favourite activities is racing toy cars around a racetrack. And he can do this just with the power of his own mind, thanks to a technology called brain-computer interface.

CBC National spoke to his mom, Melanie Tolenksy, about how this technology is enabling him to do things he loves to do on his own. ❤️ Check it out: https://bit.ly/4g1LKnV

For James, a walk in the park is more than just a walk, it's a sign of progress in his recovery journey following brain surgery.

While in utero, James had a stroke on the left side of his brain, resulting in daily seizures. At just one year old, he underwent a hemispherectomy that stopped the seizures and greatly improved his quality of life. Since then, every new achievement has become what his family calls an "inch stone,” a small but meaningful step forward worth celebrating.

During his rehabilitation at Holland Bloorview, James found joy in the therapy pool, music therapy, the therapeutic playroom and the Snoezelen room. Through play, exploration and meaningful connections with his care team, he continued to build skills and confidence throughout his recovery.

"Holland Bloorview was like no other hospital because the overall morale was always positive," says James' mom, Amanda. "It was a happy, positive environment, and that made our time there much easier."

125 years of breaking barriers.
125 years of reimagining what’s possible.

At Holland Bloorview, we dare to shape the future of disability health care for kids. For more than 125 years, we’ve worked alongside children, youth, families, researchers, clinicians, and advocates to build a more inclusive world where every child can dream, play, belong, and thrive.

As Canada’s hospital for children with disabilities, we’re fueling world-leading care, unlocking new discoveries through research, and training the next generation of health-care professionals in inclusive, family-centred care.

As we celebrate National AccessAbility Week, we remain committed to creating a future without limits, together.

“Accessibility is...”

We asked our community members to fill in the blank. Their answers are a reminder that accessibility means something deeply personal to everyone.

Accessibility is inclusion.
Accessibility is independence.
Accessibility is belonging.
Accessibility is freedom.

Together, these voices help paint a picture of a more accessible Canada.

What does accessibility mean to you? Share your answer in the comments.

Description: In this video, 7 individuals were asked to fill in the blank, and answer what accessibility means to them. Most of the clips were taken indoors, and one of them was taken outside in front of a building.
