Meet Melody Hicks, project manager, quality, safety and performance at Holland Bloorview. For Melody, creating safer care is about bringing staff, physicians, leaders, clients and families together to build a culture where everyone plays a role in safety.

After beginning her career as a critical care nurse, Melody witnessed firsthand how teamwork, communication and strong systems can shape outcomes for children and families. Today, through Holland Bloorview's Caring Safely program and partnerships with the Children's Hospitals' Solutions for Patient Safety Network, she helps advance initiatives that strengthen safety, improve care experiences and support high reliability across the organization.

One of the achievements she's most proud of is helping engage families as active partners in safety through co-designed programs and resources that empower them to speak up and participate in their child's care journey.

Holland Bloorview is serving up climate action, starting with the food on our plates.

We’re happy to announce that we’ve signed the Coolfood Pledge, a global initiative led by the World Resources Institute to reduce food-related greenhouse gas emissions by 30 per cent by 2035.

We’ve also joined Nourish Leadership’s 100 Million Better Bites campaign, working alongside Nourish and Sodexo to make food in health care settings more nutritious, delicious and climate-conscious.

“Holland Bloorview has demonstrated how individual organizations can drive meaningful change. By committing to the Coolfood Pledge, they are taking an important step toward reducing food-related emissions while supporting healthier, more sustainable food choices,”
says Amy Ford, director of planetary health at Nourish.

Working in partnership with Nourish and Sodexo (our long time food provider), Holland Bloorview is proud to play a leading role in reducing environmental impact across the health care sector.
