The Ford government issued a totally unexpected and unwelcome MZO on the Foundry in 2020 claiming the space was needed for housing. It’s 2023, 3 of the 5 heritage buildings have been demolished, and the site is now a parking lot offering 2-year leases. So they’re not even starting on this urgent housing until 2025?

The whole neighbourhood is in favour of housing (affordable) and have been advocating for adaptive reuse of these buildings instead of demolition and neglect.

We're extremely disappointed to see this partnership decision from

“TIFF and Therme Group are working together to celebrate the
importance of art, build stronger communities”

Why is a non-profit cultural organisation supporting a project that will ultimately be neither equitable or accessible - it's privatizing a public space at an absolutely enormous cost to the taxpayer. The environmental impact of this construction is a disaster.

Therme has deep connections with the Ford government and is lobbying hard against all those calling out this development.

In today’s Globe and Mail read “The proposed waterpark at Ontario Place will be Toronto’s worst building” by Alex Bozikovic.

Since the Province sent their Ontario Place development application to the City for review and zoning permission, we’ve seen new details of the planned construction (it’s available for public reading on the City’s Application Information Centre!).

Here is a clear outline of what’s at stake if this complex is built on the waterfront.

“The main building complex, which Therme calls a “spa,” would be enormous. Its footprint is 3.78 hectares, or roughly seven football fields. It has the scale of an airplane hangar, and reaches 45 metres, or 13 storeys tall…
