Campfires are permitted when the daily Fire Weather Index is Low (green), Moderate (blue), or High (yellow).

Campfires are banned when the Fire Weather Index is Very High (orange) or Extreme (red).

If you are having a campfire, follow these important safety rules:
🔥 Check the daily Forest Fire Hazard Rating before lighting any fire
🍃Avoid having campfires on windy days
🌲 Choose an open, clear area away from trees, brush, dry grass, and buildings
🏕️ Keep campfires on bare soil, gravel, sand, or contained in a screened fire pit
🔥➡️ Keep the campfire small and controllable
Keep a bucket of water or a hose nearby at all times
👀 Never leave a fire unattended
💧Fully extinguish the fire before leaving it – soak it, stir the embers, and soak again

Members of the Torbay Volunteer Fire Department will be conducting a door to door campaign over the next couple months, in Torbay and Flatrock, where we will speak to residents about wildfire risk and mitigation and also the importance of a visible civic address sign.

If you are not home when we are in your area, we will leave a door hanger with some information and our contact information is there if you have any questions or want to speak to us more.

Along with this campaign, we will also be doing some 911 mapping to ensure we have correct addresses in our system and to improve our response times.

Stay safe.

Today is Red Shirt Day.

Led by Easter Seals organizations across Canada, Red Shirt Day is recognized during
National AccessAbility Week and shines a light on the importance of accessibility & inclusion, while celebrating the contributions & achievements of persons with disabilities.

Some of members wore red to the Firehall today so show our support for red shirt day.
