In our field lessons, students learn about plankton’s vital role in marine ecosystems by collecting samples through plankton tows!

Using a fine-mesh, cone-shaped net, they can tow horizontally across the surface to capture plankton or sink and raise the net vertically to sample different depths in the water column. Afterward, they analyze the samples under microscopes, gaining a deeper understanding of these tiny creatures and their essential role in the food web. It’s a hands-on way to explore the unseen world beneath the surface! 🌊🔬

Have you ever seen a moon snail? 👀🌙 These fascinating carnivores can be found along the shoreline of Clayoquot Sound!

They hunt and feed on marine creatures, especially clams, using their strong, muscular foot to drill through hard bivalve shells, leaving behind a distinct hole. Despite their hunting skills, they take their time, slowly gliding across the seabed.

Bogs are for the brave! 🌿 Our Nature ID lessons take students on an epic hike to Ahous Bay, where the west coast unfolds in all its rugged beauty. What better way to learn about native plants than to get outside and find them in the wild! 🌱✨

We’re so grateful for the support we’ve received for our refreshed look and new website!

While our look has evolved, our mission remains the same: preserving ecological health through place-based research and education that celebrates the cultural and biological diversity of the Clayoqout Sound, a UNESCO biosphere region.

Help Cedar Coast Bring QʷAYAĆIIK to Life and Protect Coastal Wolves

QʷAYAĆIIK is a documentary about learning to coexist with coastal wolves in Nuu-chah-nulth territory. The story dives deep into human-wolf relationships and the integration of Indigenous and non-Indigenous perspectives to protect these animals.

After three years of development, this project is entering its production stage. With $25,000 left to raise, every dollar helps tell this story.

Please consider donating what you can—$5, $50, $100, $1,000. All donors will be acknowledged in the film credits, and Canadian donors can contact the team for a tax receipt through this link: sealfolkfilms.com
