The District of Tofino is inviting the community to review and provide feedback on a draft Private Water Supply Policy.

The proposed policy would establish a consistent and transparent framework for reviewing private water supply systems as part of development applications. These systems may include wells, rainwater harvesting, desalination, or other treatment-based systems.

The policy aims to support responsible development, protect the community’s watershed and reduce pressure on the municipal water system during the summer and early fall, when water demand is highest.

The District of Tofino is pleased to announce it has received $25,000 in funding through the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program. The funding will support the continued growth of the District’s SMILE Program (Support Meals Improving Lives of Elders), a community initiative focused on improving social connection, well-being, and quality of life for local seniors aged 55 and older.

The New Horizons for Seniors Program is a federal funding initiative that supports projects that encourage social participation, inclusion, and active living for seniors in communities across Canada.

Each Wednesday, the District hosts the SMILE Social at the Tofino Community Hall, where local seniors gather to share a chef-prepared meal and participate in a variety of activities. Weekly programming may include art workshops, movement and wellness classes, guest speakers, games, music, and peer-led skill sharing. The program regularly welcomes between 15 and 20 participants each week.

The SMILE Program is free and open to all seniors in the community, with no registration required.

For seniors unable to attend in person, the District continues to partner with the Better at Home Program, delivered through the Pacific Rim Hospice Society, to provide soup delivery and friendly visits. Through this collaboration, approximately 10 to 20 seniors receive meals and social support each week.

Funding from the New Horizons for Seniors Program will help cover program expenses, including food supplies, honoraria for chefs and presenters, activity materials, and special seasonal events and outings.

With renovations to the Tofino Community Hall kitchen anticipated to be complete in June, the grant will also support the introduction of expanded culinary programming and new food-focused opportunities within the upgraded facility. These additions are expected to create more opportunities for seniors to gather, learn new skills, share meals, and strengthen social connections within the community.

The report contains information and highlights for the year 2025, including, but not limited to:

• a report on municipal services and operations;
• audited financial statements;
•a list of property tax exemptions; and
• a report on progress towards objectives.

The report is available for review online or in person at the District of Tofino Municipal Office.

Council will consider the Annual Report along with submissions and questions from the public at the Regular Council Meeting scheduled for Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at 4:30 PM.

The Committee received an update on the Mini Peaks Legacy Project, a FIFA World Cup 2026 legacy initiative led by Vancouver Whitecaps FC and partners that supports the installation of community mini-pitches in communities across British Columbia.

The Committee supported the Expression of Interest (EOI) for the Mini Peaks project. If the EOI is successful, staff will return to Council at a future meeting with options for final consideration and approval.

𝗗𝗿𝗮𝗳𝘁 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗹𝘆 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘆
The Committee reviewed a draft Private Water Supply Policy that would establish clearer rules for development proposals that use private water sources, such as wells, rainwater collection, or treatment-based systems.

The Committee recommended that staff conduct public consultation on the draft policy before proceeding further. Staff will report back to Council with feedback received through the consultation process and any recommended next steps for future consideration.

The FIFA World Cup is here, and the District of Tofino is excited to bring the celebration to the West Coast!

From July 14 to 19, 2026, the District will host the West Coast Soccer Celebration, a series of free community events inspired by the tournament. Residents and visitors are invited to take part in beach soccer, an outdoor movie night, a local market, watch parties, and more.

The District of Tofino is constructing a new public washroom near the Wickaninnish Community School sports fields to support growing community use in the Fourth Street and Gibson Street area.

The project includes a single-stall, fully accessible, gender-inclusive public washroom adjacent to the southernmost ball field at Wickaninnish Community School. The facility will also include a storage room for recreation equipment, a water fountain, and a water bottle fill station.

The new washroom will support recreation programming, community events, field users, residents, students, and visitors.

Construction is expected to begin on June 15, 2026, with substantial completion anticipated by August 2026.

Construction is expected to have minimal impacts on the surrounding area, and the Wickaninnish Community School sports fields will remain open for use. For public safety, the project site will be fully enclosed with construction fencing for the duration of the work. The District asks the public to follow any posted signage while work is underway.

The Fourth Street Public Washroom Project is fully funded through the District’s participation in the Province of British Columbia’s Resort Municipality Initiative program.

The District of Tofino will conduct its monthly test of the outdoor warning sirens and Voyent Alert! emergency notification system on 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲 𝟱, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲, 𝗮𝘁 𝟭𝟭 𝗔𝗠.

These routine tests occur on the first Friday of every month to ensure the sirens and notification system are functioning correctly.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗗𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝗲𝘀𝘁
· Outdoor sirens will include a verbal message stating that it is a test and will play the "Westminster Chime."
· Those registered for Voyent Alert! will receive a test notification through all platforms they are subscribed to – email, text, voice message and app.
