September 7th is celebrated as Ukrainian-Canadian Heritage Day in Alberta and is an official day to honor the history, culture, and deep roots of Ukrainian people in the province.

➡ History of the Day: The date marks September 7, 1891, when Ivan Pylypiw and Vasyl Eleniak arrived as the first documented Ukrainian settlers in Canada. (https://www.ualberta.ca/en/canadian-institute-of-ukrainian-studies/centres-and-programs/kule-centre/ukrainians-in-alberta.html)
➡ Creation: The Alberta government passed the Ukrainian-Canadian Heritage Day Act in 2016 to establish the annual celebration.

🚧 Road Construction work is to be completed on the intersection at 50th Street and 58th Avenue.

The tentative schedule, weather dependent, is as follows:
➡ Aug 31 - Sept. 2 - excavation of the intersection progressing, temporary road cleanup at the Sunshine Villa begins, and final cleanup at the House of Ministries building start
➡ Wednesday September 2nd – 58th Avenue & 50th Street Intersection closed, excavation begins
➡ Sept. 7 - 11 - concrete work is scheduled for 58th Avenue & 50th St.

Affected residents on 50th Street and 51st Street near 58th Avenue will be notified by the contractor, and an update email will be sent to the businesses affected by the construction project this year.

🚧 NOTICE: SEWER FLUSHING IN PROGRESS 🚧

The Town of Tofield Operations Department is currently conducting routine sewer flushing throughout the community.

While flushing is taking place in your area, residents may notice:

Gurgling or bubbling sounds from toilets and drains
Temporary odours from drains
Minor changes in toilet bowl water levels

As a precaution, residents may wish to keep toilet lids closed.

The Town appreciates the patience and cooperation of residents while this important maintenance work is completed.
